Thanks, I tried 253 and it was the same. With 223 something different happened, instead of freezing at the black screen it reset to home menu instead. I'm hoping llaffer can share how he got the game running? (I'm assuming when you say it works fine that includes all the classic games too right llaffer?)
Why are you even trying to use 253? That's not a cIOS that we gave you. You had it from other messed-up mod, and should be ignored.
I used 249, just like 95% of the games that I run off of USB, and it runs just fine.
While I do agree with the 95% sentiment, he was simply following CJ's direction with respect to 253:

I need you to confirm something for me llaffer: the game loads fine for me without any problems. If I choose to do any of the kirby 'challenge' levels, they load fine. I can enter the museum and it loads fine no problem. But if I try to load the 'classic' games, only 1 of them will work (the black and white gameboy title kirby's dreamland) which is the 1st game in the list. That one works fine for some reason, but none of the others will load. So when you say it works fine, have you tried out all 6 of the classic games?
If you have and they all work fine, I need to figure out what has gone wrong for me! I really appreciate the help, thanks.
I don't think that I've tried all of them, but I do recall playing a little bit of the SNES game and I remember it working just fine.
I remember reading about one guy for whom 3 of the 6 classic games worked (1 of them was a snes game) and he had resetting for the others. Is there any chance you could check the others and get back to me (when you have time)?
In the meantime is there anything else i can do to try and get the other classic games running? Did my syscheck give any useful info? Did I go wrong somewhere that can be determined by the syscheck? like you say 95% of games have been working for me (even the games in the 'problem games' post all worked without fuss)...
Try the other cIOS (222, 224, 245-248, 250 and 251) individually and see if any difference or improvement.
Ok so I tested all of those cIOS out individually with all the classic games 1 by 1 and there was sadly no difference whatsoever. However I must have also changed some of the other settings: 3 of the six games are now working (on all of the tested cIOS). The ones which work: kirby 64, and the 2 black and white gameboy games (kirby's dream land 1 & 2)
I checked my settings: I had 'force PAL 50', block IOS reload 'on' and I also alternated 'choose list on game launch' for alt DOL to check if this made a difference (as I read some people said it got them to work). Took a while but only 3 classic games worked and I don't know which of those options made the difference.
I'm hoping llaffer actually has all 6 of them working cos I'm starting to worry I'll never get them all working! Llaffer do you have an ntsc wii? I don't understand what has gone wrong for me, I've definitely read about people who have got all 6 classical games working. What shall I do next?
Any reason you are forcing PAL 50? I see your system is PAL, so if the game is PAL, you should just have it sit at "default" and let the game decide how it should output video.
You really should only be forcing video out if you are trying to play an NTSC game on a PAL system (or visa-versa).
I know, in fact most ntsc games work fine for me with video set to 'system default' and so did this game. I thought I would try changing it (out of desperation) as I was having problems with the classic games on the disc.
It is an ntsc game as it was never released in PAL unfortunately. The guy who sold it to me told me I could play it on a PAL wii. I take it your wii is ntsc llaffer? Could that be a reason why it won't work? It doesn't really make sense as the rest of the game works fine (except for 3 ofthe classic games) I would expect if that were the issue it wouldn't work at all right?
Also I was wondering how do I check if the game is using the same IOS slot that d2x is installed? I just want to double check.
Or any ideas what I should try next?
