What does the guide tell you? It tells you to format (full, not quick) and as FAT32. Yes, even to start the guide with. If you have something you feel the urge to save, you could always copy it to your PC or somewhere else for safekeeping. I'd not encourage this, as you may end up mixing and matching stuff (and the softmod does still rely on the SD card and its structure to find what it looks for upon conclusion of the guide).
I was just wondering is it still necessary to reformat every time for me, since my sdhc card has always worked fine with the wii? Can I just delete everything off the sd card or will there still be certain info left on after deleting? Was hoping someone could explain so I could understand the process better.
Also should I change' format size adjustment' to on when formatting? Thanks
SDHC may work fine for every day use with the Wii, but not necessarily with the software for the softmod. This is a known issue and why we recommend 2gb or less fullsize SD cards (not SDHC, nor MicroSD with adapter). I find it troubling your ability to read meaning into replies or general guides with specific instructions on what to do and not to do. I am not picking on you, merely pointing out you need to be more mindful. To regurgitate on your question that was asked and answered already:

I was asking regarding my personal sdhc because when I applied a soft mod with a previous guide the card worked with all the apps (and everything else after the mod), not just before I hacked my wii. I was wondering if there may have been a reason that wasn't apparent, or something else I didn't know about regarding why it is necessary to re-format every time. Of course I understand if a person never used their card before to hack it makes complete sense and also it is complicates the process if something goes wrong and we have to determine what the error was. But is it possible the sdhc card I'm using is an exception? Sorry to give you a headache! Also I missed one of your posts somehow so you had to re-iterate, sorry again!
I formatted it but shall I change 'format size adjustment' to on when formatting?
Also I'm wondering if I did something wrong, I followed the instructions from 'softmods with HBC installed' and now I have 2 HBC installed! I'm thinking I should have just skipped straight to 'make a nand backup'?
Yes, for use AFTER the softmod SDHC should be fine (System Menu 4.1 and up began supporting such cards, in fact). The issue is some things like HBC installer (specifically, BoootMii portion of it) and WiiMod (or MMM for those on lower system menus) at times simply will not work correctly with SDHC. Errors on installing BootMii and making a backup of the NAND or wad install errors (assuming one verifies them with the MD5 checksums prior) are attributed to this. You can try, but if you get the stuff just mentioned then you'll have to resort to the card specified in the guide.
Some issues have come up in the past with simple file deletion off of a user's SD card that caused issues with their continuing the guide. We've found fully formatting the card between sessions where called for eliminates issues as reported in the past. This guide is maintained and used daily, the technique and advice is as valid today as the day cjizzle last modified it.
Not sure on the "format size adjustment" reference. Just know FAT32 and choose full (ie not quick) formatting. You can click "default" for Allocation Unit Size, but do NOT select DOS Bootable. If you have two HBC installed, likely they are different versions. You could always load one and then the other and report back the specific version given.
Awesome its all running perfectly, you guys are the best! Much better than any other guide, I couldn't have done it without this site.
I used a LEXAR 16GB SDHC and I've now hacked my wii twice (using more than 2 different guides) and have not had any error message or any kind of problem whatsoever at any stage. Hope that might help someone (although it's obviously best to follow the recommendations of the guide just to be safe).
1) Can I transfer all the files that were on my SDHC onto my usb and just run everything off that now that everything's installed?
2)I went into the HBC and I can't find what version it is? How do I find out (so I know which one to keep) and once I find out, do I have to launch wiimod again to uninstall it?
I believe if you hit the home button on the wiimote, it will identify what version of HBC. Yes, you can transfer files and go USB (presuming FAT32). You'd have to alter an .ini type file to reflect proper pathing (that the loader needs to look at the USB drive rather than the SD card). I can't recall the parameter right off. If you load it via text file editor, you may see what I speak of.
I checked the versions of HBC and 1 is v 1.1.0 and other 1.1.2 so I better keep the latest version right? But how do I uninstall the other?
Also when you say load the .ini file via text file editor is this a specific program or do you mean something like 'notepad'? Is there a guide on exactly how to alter it so it loads via usb? thanks
You can download the latest HackMii installer and remove V1.1.2; our guide uses V1.1.0 and there has been a debate of late if it really matters which a user has. V1.1.2 has stuff relating to vWii on Wii-U. And yes, I mean something simple like notepad.
