Shall I update my Wii?
I bought Wii NTSC few days ago.
It's the black one family edition.
The current firmware in my Wii is 4.3 but when ever I try to access Shop or Netflix channel or browse internet it says that there is a system update available so I should update my system before proceeding.
Isn't 4.3 latest version so why is it asking me to update?
Or is it just a minor version (I read it on some website) and I can safely update it?
Why am I asking is because I want to softmod it and I don't want that once it updates, I won't be able to apply any patch on it.
Just follow our Softmod ANY Wii guide. It will update everything that is needed.
There was a final update in November 2012 with the Wii U launch that installed IOS 62 and updated Wii Shop to v21 for the "Wii to Wii U transfer tool". This did not change the menu level to 4.3 since the menu itself was unchanged (As you will learn, menu level and other components are not directly tied together.)
If you plan on softmodding your system, you can just follow our Softmod Any Wii guide and be sure to include the optional Wii Shop v21 portion in Chapter 2. That will get you current. If you don't plan on softmodding and was just asking the question, then go ahead and do the Nintendo update that it wants you to do.
Note, once you've softmodded your system, do not use Nintendo's Update. There likely will not be any need to do so, but if there is, there will be .wad files to install to perform the similar task.
cj answered the question, but I felt that I could add a little more detail as to the "why".
So basically I should not update my Wii before softmodding?
Or shall I update it before softmodding?
You don't have to, but no harm in doing it if your Wii is currently not modded.
Both will yield the same results, if you install everything optional in Chapter 2.
Now you see why my response was so simple llaffer, LMAO
