Super Mario 3D World
I am really excited for this game but I really hope they change 2 things.
Most importantly, Nunchuck support. Mulitplayer is huge feature of this game but a nintendo rep has stated they are not planning to support it. This is a 3D game and supporting wii mote Dpads and not nunchucks is absolutely ridiculous. Sure the pro controller will give you analog control, but its more expensive and does not have nearly the install base on the nunchuck controller. I don't think this is some scheme to try to sell more pro controllers, it's just short sighted. It was great and won much praise when MKWii and SSBB supported all controllers, even wiimote only on Smash was nice to include even if it sucked. In the same vein it was nice to include nunchuck support in NSMB Wii even if it sucked, the dpad is superior for that type of game. It is totally backwards to include something that sucks and not support the more natural control method. The entire point of the nunchuck was for games like these.
Secondly, 3D support. I have a 3DS and enjoy it. Super Mario 3D Land is the one game on the system where the 3D is integral to the gameplay and not just eyecandy. This game is a sequel and the demo even showed some similar ideas where the 3D made a difference but they currently are not planning to support 3D. It has 3D in the title and is similar to a game that is in 3D and the Wii U is perfectly capable of supporting 3D and yet the are not planning on supporting it? What the hell? I understand not everyone likes 3D (you can turn it off) and that 3D televisions are not a huge percentage of TV's out there but these televisions are basically just as cheap as normal HDTV's these days and I would think the install base of them is growing.....just pust 3D support in the game like you did in your very successful handheld console. 3D is good for your brain.
The Nintendo rep that was at my event yesterday said that Nunchuk support was still a possibility.
As for 3D support, I'm doubting the hardware chosen for the Wii U could support it if they wanted to, so I don't see that coming. This gets down to the same reason the Wii wasn't an HD console. Nintendo felt that the install rate of HD sets weren't high enough to warrant it. While they didn't forsee it increase as greatly as it did in the next few years, 3D TV install rate is still very small and I don't see it spiking the way that HD sets did from 2007-2010.
The ps3 and 360 support 3d just fine so the wiiu is perfectly capable. Nintendo has said it is capable as well. It is a bonus for me if a game includes it. With this game however I think it is important, have you played 3d land? It has certain levels where the game recommends you turn on the 3d. The 3d actually improves the gameplay in that title and is not simply eye candy (which is not really the case for any Sony or Microsoft games).
as far as nunchuck support I really hope people let nintendo know they want it and they probably will include it. It could be patched in but it really needs to be there when it releases.
Yes. I have played 3D Land and agree that having it in 3D helped. The levels that it is almost required because it's a visual trick puzzle can be easilly removed from the game.
There are times where the player on the GamePad can use the gyro controls to move the camera around while playing, similar to how Mario 64 used the C-buttons to control the camera. So that ability (which didn't exist in 3D Land) would help in those environments where a physical 3D pop-out or pop-in would have helped.
For me, it's low priority, since I lack a 3D TV (hell, I lack a 1080p TV, neither of my HD sets supports it, one goes to 720p as max input and the other only does 1080i).
Yeah, it's by no means a deal breaker with the 3D but I defnitely want it. Before the Wii U launch Iwata stated it is capable of supporting 3D but that Nintendo would not be focusing on it.
Nunchuck control is a high priority though. Mulitplayer enjoyment will be severely diminshed having to use dpads and I really don't want to have to consider dropping a $150 plus on 3 or 4 pro controllers since they are not even well supported by many games and the wiimote is already perfectly capable of supporting an analog sitck and I have already spent a bunch of money on those.
This game is looking amazing.
This new trailer about exploded my kids heads....wish I recorded their reaction to seeing it.
Someone should contact the ASPCA about that cat skin...
That looks like another great Mario game.
I came up with this image shortly after the E3 announcement. :) Figured I'd share it again after the additional information that has been released.
Reviews are universally praising this game. Could be game of the year.
This game is going to give console sales a massive boost. I hear lots of people thinking about jumping on a Wii U. It has a way better game lineup at this time than PS4 and Xbone combined and the new bundles are looking like great values.
I am super excited for this game tomorrow, more excited than I have ever been for a Mario game. My son has been asking me about this game every day for weeks counting down the days.
Too bad they didn't add stereoscopic 3D because I think it would have been great for this game but from what I see it does seem to support pretty much every controller you can use with a Wii U. Gamepad, Pro controller, Wiimote, nunchuck, and classic controller.
I think Wii U finally has it's killer app and some great titles coming soon next year as well. Now is the time for all those fence sitters to get a Wii U. I think it will have a surprisingly strong holiday showing, it will have to about double the install base to reach the 9 million goal Nintendo set, it may come close to that.
If what I read is true, this game can be played in 3D if you have a 3D TV. Could be a rumor but I've seen people say that online.
If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct :D
