I have the idea about using my Wii like hardware torrent client.
Did somebody seen homebrew app for this, or maybe using some WiiLinux distributive with unix torrent client???
PS search by keywords "wii" + "torrent" retrieve huge numbers of trackers wiht games for wii =(
Wii Player from Russia
why would you WANT to use your wii as a torrent client?
the memory is 512 mb
and the SD card cap is 2 gigs.... its slower than a computer, and in the end its not gonna help you any getting anything from it
because wii is silent=)
why only 512? tomorrow I has been connected my 320 gig,s hdd and wii
external hard drives dont work on the wii, outside of a few VERY LIMITED things
Flatmii + computer + HDD works *though it would be AMAZINGLY USELESS*
the other one, drive key if i recall can do it, but its a modchip and only for booting ISO's
and some media programs can use it
but since nothing saves anything to that, its very iffy, and you got to think whom is this really helping besides looking cool
like PSP torrents i get a WHOLE 3kbs download via wifi on it =\
gama loader and mplayer works with FAT and NTFS...
but with torrent client should come a basic browser too...
or logmein from opera to get to your computer...
I don't think that there is a possibility to write the data directly on the HDD, so the movie, or parts of it have to be written on the Wii interntal flash memory, which would shorten the Wii life span. Correct me if I'm wrong, I would love to use the Wii as a torrent client, but I don't think we will ever do that.
If you are motivated enough you can use WiiToo! to run linux on your wii. There are others, but this one has wifi support out of the box. All you need to do is compile and install a bittorrent client and mount a usb hd- and off you go. I will work, but you will probably pull out all your hair in the process.
Just an update, I also believe you could us dosbox, cwsdpmi, and ctorrent to run bittorent client on the wii.
edit: Nevermind, dosbox for wii has no network support- but when it does it should work.
You do realise that torrents can take days to download and if you did use your wii for torrents you would not be able to play it.
What's the contemporary thinking on a Wii torrent client? There isn't one, so clearly coders don't see the point. I don't see the Wii memory as a limit of any kind and Wii USB HDDs are now commonplace. I'd sooner leave my Wii on overnight than my PC. (Have you seen the price of windfarms recently?) Surely there's a readily available torrent client code stub which could be patched into something like WiiXplorer, for example? Comments only, please. No flames. I don't really care: My NAS only costs a few pennies a day to run.
