My powerpak is not working well at all. It hasn't given me extended battery life, so far I got an hour at most. The gamepad doesn't read it's charge correctly either, I seen it full and at about half charge. The gamepad shuts down with out ever indicating low charge and has turned on and started working again after shutting off and showed half charge. On another occasion it did show low charge indication and them came back with half charge. I am contacting nyko today....
It took a few tries of getting sent to voicemail and such but I did finally get through to Nyko Tech Support.
They told me they are aware of issues and are going to release an updated version of the powerpak to address them "in a few weeks". They took down my name and address and offered to send me a Uboost but since I already have one they are sending me a charging stand. They also said they will send me the revised powerpak when it's available. They did not ask me for proof of purchase or to send the deffective battery back to them so I am probably going to go ahead and return it to gamestop.
By the way, this thing is heavier than the Uboost and more noticeable when handling the gamepad IMO.
I just packed up and returned that junk battery to Amazon for credit.
Did you call nyko first? They probably would have sent you free stuff like they did me, the Uboost is quite good. I just got back from Gamestop, I got a second powerpak and it was also defective so I got my money back.
I'd rather just get my money back and apply it to something else that I've got pre-ordered from Amazon. (OUYA comes out next week :) )
Yeah I got my money back plus free stuff.
ouya is intriguing, I really wish it wasn't hdmi only though. Will only work on some of my tvs.
With the size of the box, I'm not surprised. I'm running out of ports in my HDMI switch. I looked at how much it would cost to get another, and it's more than I want to spend right now (will definitely need to increase my port capacity before November).
Well Nyko did go ahead and ship the "revised" Power Pak that is supposed to fix the problems. I just got it yesterday so we will see how well it works.
For those keeping score, my desire for this product has netted me completely for free:
2 Nyko U boosts for Wii U
A USB gamepad charging cable (very nice that is works with USB chargers, I can charge game pad and Uboost individually and decrease my charging time)
And a (hopefully well functioning) Power Pak for Wii U.
That is about $95 worth of merchandise for free. Thank you Gamestop and Nyko!
really just one Uboost pretty much gives you unlimited battery life except for when my kids run down both when I am not around. When I use it I simply play until the gamepad is low on battery, then I attatch the Uboost to charge up the gamepad, after a certain period of time the gamepad has a decent charge so I can take the Uboost off and start charging it while playing. If I play long enough the my gamepad battery gets low again I can use the Uboost that has been charging. The charge lasts longer than it takes to charge so this basically gives you unlimited battery life and it is really simple to take the Uboost on and off as needed. Now that I have an extra battery though even if the kids run both down I can simply swap in a fully charged spare battery.
Thanks. Let us know how the updated version works. I may reconsider buying it again if there is positive reviews.
I can't really tell any difference in the packaging between this and the bad ones I had previous. I did notice though that connector on the battery is the right way now...the first two I had to twist the wires so the connector would attatch properly, but this one did not need that. I wonder if that is the hardware revision they did. I saw someone say they replaced the connector on their crappy battery and it functioned perfect after they did.
Just was remembering I should post an update on this. While I have not done any scientific tests I have been using this power pak for about a month and it is working great.
I seriously do not remeber seeing a low battery light warning since I put the thing in. Even if I did I got my uboost and original battery as backup.
I have just been using it as normal. I put it on the charging cradle pretty much whenever it's not being used.
For anyone not reading the whole thread: This is my 3rd Nyko Power Pak. This one was shipped directly from Nyko who told me they were aware of issues and would ship me a new one once they corrected them. So if you get this product pay attention to the connector, if you have to twist it for it to fit you may have issues. If you do have issues I highly recommend contacting Nyko directly...they really went above and beyond to take care of me here. I detailed in the thread they sent me a bunch of free stuff and I returned the defective PowerPak to the retailer for a full refund so I actually did not pay anything for 3 great products (revised PowerPak, Uboost, and USB charging cable for the gamepad) that have more than solved all my gamepad battery life issues.
