There are FAT32 and NTFS guides linked in my signature that we recommend. (I recommend that you check out the FAT32 one, first. It allows the most flexibility of uses, such as allowing HBC to launch apps directly from HDD (HBC doesn't read NTFS).
If you want to use Devolution or Dios Mios for GameCube loading, you need FAT32 as well (32k clusters, which is a unique requirement for only GC games that doesn't exist for Wii game loading).
