Right card reader dongle has arrived and as mentioned I have downloaded the mailbox_brick_fix file as instructed, but now what do I transfer the file onto the Wii SD card and boot it up in maintenance mode go to the Wii storage menu select the SD card and select file and follow instructions. Or as I suspect are there other things involved as you mention HBC and bootmii what are these?
Sorry for what must appear to be lame newbie questions but unfortunately that is exactly what I am so any help is most appreciated

...1. Get your Wii's mac address:The MAC address of the Wii can be found by:
From the Wii Channel menu, select "Wii Settings" (the round button on the bottom-left of the screen with "Wii"
Select "Internet," then "Console Settings."
The MAC address of the Wii console is displayed on the first line.
2. Format your SD card. Fat32
Panasonic SDFormat preferred. Dont skip this step.
3. Download the HackMii installer
You can use the mac address to build a custom hackmii installer at LetterBomb
MAKE SURE YOU SELECT YOUR REGION up top
If you get the captcha wrong, it will RESET your region. This happened to me. If you do, the installer, well,
in my case hung the wii. Had to hard boot it.
4. Copy downloaded files to root directory of SD card. I used windows xp.
5. Put card in wii and start it.
6. Hit the envelope in the lower right hand corner
If you dont see the red message with the bomb, hit the - or + buttons to choose a different date.
7. Click on the big red envelope with the bomb.
The hackmii installer launches. (note if it hangs, you might not have done step 2, or you might have chosen
the incorrect region)...
Go to part 2
Part 2- Install The HomeBrew Channel and Bootmii
Read the Scam warning and press 1
It may take a minute or two for the "press 1" to appear- be patient
Install the HomeBrew Channel
Install Bootmii as Boot2(boot2 may not be available, IOS installs automatically)
Prepare the SD-card
If Step1 fails with error "no vulnerable ios",
Part 3- Make A NAND Backup (NOT Optional, do this,)
Load HBC, press -HOME-, launch Bootmii
Make a nand backup
Press Power, Power, Power, Reset, Reset (yes we are talking about the buttons on your Wii console itself, or you can use a GameCube controller. If using the buttons on your Wii, press them quickly, do not hold them down)
Power = Right, Eject = Left, Reset = Select
Once the backup is complete, exit bootmii to HBC
Backup your Bootmii files to your PC
*DO NOT LOSE THESE FILES*
If you want to load bootmii again at a later date, copy the bootmii folder back to sd:\
This may not work from maintenance mode, a game exploit may be required instead.
Right back again,
I have purchased a Memory card reader and a 32GB SDHC memory card and have followed the above instructions i.e. formatted card inputted mac address downloaded letter bomb etc but it would appear that as the Wii is running in maintenance mode I am unable to select the required envelope (Message board) in the bottom right hand corner (it tells me this) any ideas as getting this sorted seems to hinge on being able to access the message board!
All the best.
Be aware, some of the software/apps utilized simply do not work with SDHC cards. Mauifrog would better able to guide you on this, but as a suggestion it'd not hurt to get a 1gb or 2gb full SD card. SDHC or MicroSD in SD adapter often do not work, depending. You must fully format FAT32 (ie, don't use the quick format and do NOT use the Mac to do the format --- this was a problem for a Mac User recently, so I recommend an actual PC for that).
Use a game exploit, you'll also need a 1-2g sd card (sdhc won't work with game exploit)
Hi thanks for the response guy's,
I have also tried it with a standard 2GB SD card (still the same) but as I may have mentioned I am trying do all this on my MacBook, I simply downloaded the letter bomb file to the desk top and copied and paste it to the formatted memory card (both 2GB & 32GB) then inserted into the Wii and nothing!
mauifrog you mention a "Game Exploit" what is that and why do I need it?
If it is a Mac issue I will have to dig out the Laptop (PC) and see if that makes any difference.
All the best.
either Letterbomb or game exploit, u also need a 1~2GB standard SD card.
To answer your question, an extract from the "Softmod ANY Wii Guide":

dug the laptop (PC) out re-formated 2GB SD card copied the letterbomb files onto it and....nothing, again as I am running in Maintenance Mode I am unable to select the "Message Board" icon!
So I took a look at my options as suggested by you guys and decided that my best thing was the old SSBB "Trojan Horse" so I have downloaded the Smash Stack Hack, I then extracted it to the newly re-formated 2GB SD card and followed the SSBB instructions i.e deleted all SSBB level files go back to the SSBB main menu put the SD card and then back to the stage builder and.....nothing!
The game does not see any data on the card, I have checked and the PC says it's on there!
