PS3 offline update?
Here's a fun question for you all...
My kid's friend has a PS3 slim that is off-network (don't know current menu version). I've lent her some of my games and BluRay disks to borrow and so far there has been no issues. I lent her Persona 4 BR disks to borrow and it says that an update is required before they can be used.
While I could talk with her parents and see if I can talk them into enabling the network long enough to do an update, then pull the plug again, but I was wondering if there was an off-line method to updating the system so she can watch my BR disks without having to deal with that.
Awesome. I'll give this to her so she can try to get it working.
I set up a FAT32-formatted USB hard drive for her with the update files in place for her to try to do the manual update. It didn't take, I guess the hard drive may have to have been formatted by her PS3? Not sure.
So we ended up moving her PS3 and TV into the living room where their router is to Ethernet in Internet access to do the update that way. (Router isn't wireless). Her system is now updated and she's able to watch the BR disks that I lent her.
