Wii to Wii U transfer has region issues. How to solve??
Hi there, I'm new here, I'm from Holland and been playing Nintendo since 1987.
When the Gamecube came out, I got myself a US version while on holiday, since it was released 6 months earlier over there. In order to keep backwards compatibility, I also got a US Wii 6 years ago.
However, since games don't get delayed so much anymore for europe, and it's always a hassle to import, I decided to get a PAL Wii U last month. However, the Wii transfer system doesn't allow me to transfer my US Wii to the PAL Wii U.
So I was already doing some research. I already got the Homebrew Channel up and running on the Wii U (with some help of a second hand PAL copy of SSBB). So now I have 3 options:
- use Gecko OS: already tried it, and it works! I can play all my US Wii games on the PAL Wii U. However, I can't acces my old save games or all my Virtual Console titles, and probably have to buy some of them again.
- Change the region code of the old US Wii to PAL using AnyRegion_Changer. Haven't tried it yet, sounds tempting to change my old console to PAL, and then see if it will transfer all the old data, however then I still need to use the Gecko OS for playing the NTSC games on the still-PAL Wii U.
- Change the region of the new PAL Wii U to NTSC (only the Wii-mode). I already tried running the AnyRegion_Changer on my Wii U, however I got an error (Error! ES_OpenTitleContent (ret = -1026)). According to wiibrew.org it's a known error, and I should first use DOP-Mii to install IOS36 v1042, and then it 'might' work. If it would work, I can probably just transfer my old Wii without hassle, and get to play NTSC wii games right from the menu without the need of Gecko OS.
So, I got a few options here. I know option 1 works, and I'm glad, at least get to play all the Wii games through the Gecko OS. But, that still isn't a system transfer without all the saves and VC games.
Anybody have experience with this? Would it hurt to run DOP-Mii on the Wii U, and then use the AnyRegion Changer? Any chance to brick the Wii-mode on the Wii U? Any other options?? Thanks.
