Help with HD / possible spindown issue?
I'm not sure what exactly would be the best system info to post for this question, so rather than posting a wall of non-essential specs up here, please let me know what will best help troubleshoot the following issue:
I've had homebrew on my wii for a few months now. I've learned what I can and fuddled through most of my issues myself with the help of online resources, but now I'm stuck with a frustrating issue where my backed-up games tend to crash after a short while of playing them. Here's what I can offer as far as my setup:
I'm using USB Loader GX to load my backups. I've had my hard drive (where the games reside) for a couple of months now. It's a 750GB Western Digital "green drive" but it's in a MyBook enclosure, so I don't know the exact model. When I initially set it up, the drive was formatted to NTFS. I experienced issues with it (especially loading and transferring data), so I reformatted the whole thing to WBFS and a lot of my issues cleared up. It seems more compatible, so I've stuck with it.
Granted there are a few games on my drive that just don't play at all, you hit start and it goes black, every time. I've accepted a couple of bad apples in the mix, for whatever reason. But my real issue is with the rest of the games that seem to play fine, but after a little while of playing them, they freeze up / crash, etc. From what I've gathered doing a bit of looking around online, this might be a "spindown" issue with the hard drive, but I'm not positive.
Does anyone know what might be causing my games to freeze up or crash after 45 minutes to an hour of playing them? What can I do for a solution?
