I'm currently writing an update that will detail making a bigger emulated memory card, it will be up tonight. I will update the GCMM attachment as well. I'll see if I can work in any other guide updates as well (mainly how to use alternative controllers).
Expect all this to be done by tomorrow morning :)
On a related note, as someone that has never really used Windows 8, there's a user on GBATemp running Windows 8 that's having issues renaming his memory card dump to memcard.bin because it's not displaying file extensions. It's possible that Windows 8 may have file extensions turned off by default, and therefore giving the procedure for making file extensions visible may be a good idea.
Ok, update added. Includes Part 4b: Upgrading to a Bigger Memory Card. Still working on the alternative controllers portion which I hope to have finished soon.
@Nintendo Maniac 64: I'll look into that.
You might get lucky with some games (some people say they have) but generally Devolution won't work with compressed games. That's why full 1:1 copies are recommended. But feel free to keep trying and let us know if any of your games do work compressed :)
I seem to have the best luck with games that compress to under half of the original ISO's size. In particular, Mario Party 4 compressed to around 500MB and Nintendo Puzzle Collection compresses all the way to about 150MB, and sure enough both games work perfectly fine on Devolution when compressed. For reference I mark any games that I find to work with compression as such on the Devolution compatibility wiki, and have done so for the two games I just mentioned.
In other news, wouldn't your instructions for expanding the memory card be simpler if you made a bat file? Or do you need me to make one for you? :p It'd be similar to my "Devolution Wifi logging for Windows dummies" FYI.
If you could make a batch file that would let users select what size to expand the card to (or would auto select 2,043 blocks for the output size) that would be great thanks.
I hate to admit it, but I don't know how to turn a exe into a batch file :P
Well that was easy, I managed to throw it together in like a minute - and at the time I didn't even knew that you had posted a reply! So here it here - GCpadder, now with BAT file:
[link removed - go read the first post for a download!]
(please do not this link elsewhere, I will delete the ZIP once it's hosted on Wiihacks directly)
Open up the BAT file in notepad and you'll see just how stupidly simple it really is. :P
EDIT: And I never realized it until I made said BAT file that 2043 is over twice as large as the largest official Nintendo memory card.
File downloaded, will check it out tomorrow and adjust the guide accordingly.
