[GUIDE] FTPii for Wii and ME
FTPii sets up an FTP server on your Wii. It uses a FTP client from you computer and will allow you access to various parts of your Wii's data remotely. The purpose of setting this up is to gain access to the Wii's SD card and HDD (if you have a FAT32 partition set up on it), without having to unplug and move them. Basically laziness.. LMAO!
*This guide uses the assumption that a Windows machine is being used to communicate with your Wii via FTP. If you have a preferred FTP client, the instructions in this guide might still apply (to a certain extent)..
**It is also assumed that you have already configured your Wii's network settings. It is highly recommended to set up your Wii with a static IP.
"Install"
1) Download FTPii using your computer, unzip the ftpii zip file, and copy the 'ftpii' folder (and its contents) to the 'apps' folder of your SD card (sd:/apps).
** If you want to use a password, rename the folder ( sd:/apps/ftpii_password where password is your password. )
*** If using the FireFTP extension as your FTP client and haven't installed it, do it now and reload Firefox.
**** If you chose to use the stand-alone FileZilla FTP client, download it and follow the installer's prompts..
2) Start the HBC and run FTPii.
** FTPii will use your Wii's configured network settings to initialize.
*** It will also show your Wii's current IP address (which we hope is static), and display the TCP port that it is listening on.
**** Take note the IP address and TCP port. You WILL need them later.
3) Re-mount various devices by hitting B on your Wii Remote and following the prompts.
** note: It shouldn't have to, but.... Hitting A will shut down FTPii and exit back to the Homebrew Channel..
4) Start up your FTP client of choice.
"for Windows"
(no installation necessary)
1) Open "My Computer"
2) Type ftp://<IPADDRESS>/sd
**<IPADDRESS> is the IP address you took note of.
You can now copy, move, and delete files using the standard Windows interface.
Note: to edit files, you will need to copy them to a local folder (e.g., the desktop), edit them and then copy them back.
"Set-up & Use"
You only need
ONE:
"FireFTP Client"
1) Within Firefox, click on Tools, then "FireFTP" to open up an instance of the FTP client.
2) Underneath your opened tabs, you should see the FireFTP console. Click on the second drop-down and select 'Create an account'
**(its to the left of the 'Connect,' 'Edit,' and 'Abort' buttons)
3) In the 'Main' tab, under the 'Main Details' section, fill in the 'Account Name' and 'Category' fields.
** Use whatever you want (IE Account Name: Wii Category: Console)
4) For 'Host' use the Wii's IP address that you noted earlier..
5) You may leave the 'ID' section fields blank/default.
6) Click the 'Connection' tab and under the 'Connection Type' section; Fill in the 'Port' field" Section with the TCP port you noted earlier.. (It'll probably be port 21).
7) You may leave all other fields here blank/default.
8) Click 'OK' to finalize the account.
9) Click on the second drop-down again, and select the newly-created account.
10)Click 'Connect' and when prompted to enter your login information, simply hit 'OK' again.
**You should now be connected to your Wii.
On the left half of the console should be displaying your computer and/or harddrive(s). From here you may navigate to your computer's Desktop, harddrive(s), etc.
The right half of the console should be displaying your Wii's components. We highly recommend NOT messing with your 'nand' and 'isfs' locations on your Wii.
Now if you have an SD card inserted, you'll be able to access its contents by expanding the 'sd' folder. For a HDD with a FAT32 partition set up, you'll be able to access its contents by expanding the 'usb' folder.
At this point, accessing/editing/copying/pasting/moving/deleting files and folders functions much like any other file browser.
Disconnecting is as easy as hitting A on your Wii Remote in order to close FTPii.
*** You should only need to worry about SD and USB
Or
"FileZilla Client"
1) Start FileZilla.
2) Open the Site Manager
**first icon on the left under 'File', or File\Site Manager or Ctrl+S
3) Click on 'New Site' (On the left-hand side of the Site Manager) and give it a name (IE. 'Wii, nancy, alice or whatever floats you boat..').
4) Fill the 'Host' field in with the Wii's IP address you noted earlier,On the right-hand side of the Site Manager
5) Fill in the 'Port' field with the "TCP port" info you noted earlier. (It'll probably be port 21).
6) You may leave all other fields here blank/default.
7) Click 'OK' to finalize the account.
8) Click the drop-down arrow attached to the Site Manager icon (first icon under 'File') and click the site you just configured. FileZilla will attempt to connect to your Wii.

"Tips"
-First off... This is a slow process so dont do it if your in a hurry.. its convenient but a slow.
-If you shutdown ftpii and restart ftpii while leaving Firefox opened. Use the refresh button... You will get an error when you try to transfer if you don't.
-Be patient when you disconnect and then reconnect. at times it wont want to reconnect if you get in a hurry.
-Completely finish the transfer before exiting ftpii or Firefox. It will corrupt the file if you shut either down to early and you will have to do it again.
-I recommend FileZilla... it seems as though its improved and speed it better.
Thanks
