Well I don't want to keep it modded. So if I do downgrade to 4.1U, I can update it to 4.3U with a risk? Somehow when I first modded it and then undid it, I updated it fine.

If you are going to follow this guide to remove the soft mod , then you are going to have do as it say's.
Follow this guide to a "T", if at any point something goes wrong...you could end up with a Brick.

When it comes to Modding your wii you do have the option on downgrading to 4.1 or staying on 4.3.

You always run the risk , when doing so.

I was reading it and at one point it said to extract either of the files (4.1U, 4.1E, 4.1J) on the SD (I think). When would it give me the option to stay on 4.3U?

By the way, is there a specific guide you recommend me for hacking my wii? I think all I need is homebrew channel?

Alright, If you are Removing the soft mod from your wii..you will not have that option.
You will have to do as this Guide say's.
Please be careful and re-read this Guide if needed.

You only have that option if you are Soft Modding your wii.
That's why reiterated it to you above.

Alright so when I am soft modding my Wii, I have the option to keep it as 4.3U. When I am removing the soft mod I will have to change it to 4.1U, but I'll be able to update to 4.3U or no? Is it a problem if I kept it at 4.1U because this Wii isn't only mine and my younger siblings play new games.

Yes, when soft modding you have that option.

Yes, when you are removing the soft mod from your wii you will have to downgrade to 4.1.

Yes, you will have to update back to 4.3.
The guide to remove the soft mod will explain this thoroughly.

I just did everything smoothly up until step 4 where I removed my custom channels. My sys check was fine except at the I have BC v6 instead of BC v5, is that a problem?

I noticed that my disc channel is not in the normal spot just now....CRAP. I need a priiloader hack in order to move it back and then I gotta go through this guide again.

What is the minimum I need to do to install priiloader and move my disc channel back?
NVM, I redid the whole softmod and moved it with out a problem.

Question though, I followed all the steps but I wasnt sure about the the "Backup HBC" I have installed from following the softmod any wii guide. I thought Hackmii would have uninstalled it when it uninstalled the HBC but it did not. Can I just delete it like I did the other custom channels?

Well I just went ahead and deleted the backup HBC....seemed fine.

I have a question about an error I got though. I tried to remove my wii shop channel account, when you do this it makes you type in the serial number of the Wii. I typed it in and it kept saying it was wrong so i couldn't remove it. I then formatted the system memory and went and took a look and my info was still there in the wii shop channel.

This post was incredibly helpful in reverting my system to a "non-softmodded state". I don't know if this is classified as "virginizing" a wii, since I couldn't find any up-to-date wii-virgin tutorials for a 4.3u softmodded wii, but this brought the system close enough that I felt comfortable selling my wii without leaving them in a situation where they don't know what's going on with the wii, or where the wii would have problems etc.

There were a couple parts that threw me off because of wording, so I'm clarifying here for future readers:

First, The part where it says:
"If you are running (rev 65535): all down the list, you have CIOSCORP/DARKCORP installed. Follow This and then continue following this guide."

I wasn't sure what "all down the list" meant, because down the list, I did see a couple listed as 65535... which sent me down a path of looking for how the hell I accidentally / ever installed darkcorp or cioscorp, and the hellish tutorials on removing it ... which I completed half of the downloads for only to find out the links to the other wad files required were dead and I was caught between hunting for those missing files elsewhere or looking at other tutorials... and I failed miserably at both. After re-reading I thought "well, maybe he literally means EVERY FILE on the list when he says "all down" the list, and gave it a try without any darkcorp removal. Things went smoothly thankfully, but this was a lot of unnecessary confusion and frustration, so if you could adjust the original tutorial to be more clear on this I think it would help.

Second, the part where we are told to download a clean system menu:

While I found the answer on this thread further down, it wasn't clear to me from the original post what I was supposed to do. Since my console was 4.3u, I was under the impression that 4.1 was the incorrect system menu. Again, after reading other posts here, people had the same questions and the answer was "Yes, use the 4.1u version if you have a 4.xu system". To clarify further for people following this tutorial in the future, when everything is entirely and completely done, you'll have the option to run a system update that will raise the system-menu back to 4.3u; so the 4.1u system menu is just a universal solution to remove all the different softmods without needing 30 different tutorials.

In the end this tutorial got me there, but hopefully those changes can be made or at least these notes help someone else who is in a similar situation in the future. I hadn't dabbled in the wii softmod world since the original experiment where I came to these same forums and read some awesome guides that sparked my curiosity enough to literally go out, buy a wii, mod one up. After the mod, I didn't touch it again for 2 years... so I decided to sell the system and realized I needed to revert things.

Hopefully some of the forum goers realize that people in similar situations to myself are only trying to bring the system back to a sell-able or gift-able state (I say this because there are so many comments that say "why would you want to remove the softmod... everything should be fine with a softmod... yada yada yada"), and I'm sure many of us are not "deep in the scene"; so without these tutorials, we wouldn't have a clue what to do.

A BIG thanks to Link for the awesome guide, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you!
