An SD Gecko is a little adapter that lets you plug an SD card into the Gamecube memory card slot. The IDE adaptor allows you to plug a desktop size, old school hard drive into the GC memory card slot. (You need an external power supply for this).
I know you need a GameCube memory card for saving GameCube saves but do you also need it with this? Or does it save the game saves to a SD card or something?
You still need a GC memory card for saves. You also need a retail game disc to boot your backup (any game will do).
Edit: Man I'm slow today...Everyone is beating me to the punch!
Ah, right. I was confused at first because you needed the GameCube memory card slot for the Gecko adaptor, but then I discovered there were 2 GameCube memory cards slots lol.
Sorry for the stupid question...
Tomorrow is another day :P

Thanks Cile. I'll add it to the guide when I get home. I also have to update to the most recent rev, link the most recent download pack I put together, and do a little touch up here and there.
Followed directions to the T patched star fox tried it on several different SD sticks with no luck i get a red box says to restart the gamecube and check the manual. Thats with a patched .gcm version of it (same thing happened with Skies of Arcadia.
I'll have to add your results soon to my list soon. I have some updating to do. I did update the guide not too long ago to include the most recent rev of Swiss, updated the download pack, and a few other things even though it's not in my change log. I've had a lot going on IRL recently but I'm almost back to normal duty on here.
