Extracting IOS Needed To Run Game

Some people may notice getting a black screen when trying to run certain games. The reason this happens is because the game is trying to load an IOS not available on your console. To Solve the problem you will need to install the IOS via Wad Manager.


Things Needed
IOS Patcher
WiiScrubber v1.4
WAD Manager v1.4 or v1.5
A Wii ISO (One that doesn't have its update partition removed)


Both IOS Patcher and Wii Scrubber can be downloaded here

Before you start unzip the downloaded files

Check to see if the game is alread added to tealc's list:

If the game is on the list. Remember or write down the IOS it needs and continue from step 2 of this tutorial.


STEP 1 - Find Out What IOS A Game Needs

Drag the .iso file onto IOSPatcher. A screen telling you what IOS the game needs should come up. Remember it or Write It Down.

Step 2 - Extract the Required IOS

Next Run WiiScrubber.exe

WiiScrubber should open. Press Load ISO.

Browse for and open the same .iso that was dragged onto IOSPatcher



Next Expand the update partition. This is the Partiton that says Partition: 0 - Update.

Next expand the part that's called _sys

Next Scroll down until you find the same IOS number that was in IOSPatcher in this case, its IOS55. Right click the IOS file and select Extract. Save this into the WAD folder on the root of your sd card.

STEP 3 - Installing the IOS

1)With your sd card inside your wii, load homebrew channel then load Wad Manager. I'd recommend using WAD manager v1.4 or v1.5

2)If you're asked to select an IOS for install select IOS249 then install the .wad file you got from WiiScrubber.

The Game should now run fine.

i did this for modern warfare with no luck -- still a black screen :\.

Does the extraction make the iso unfunctional... or is it merely making a small copy of just the ios? I just want to make sure that my iso on my desktop will stay in tact (untainted) after extracting the necessary ios for this game to play.

Extracting a file from the iso will not modify the iso. It just copies it.

like shadowsonic said it just make a copy of the ios, then u have to put it in your wii using wadmanager.

done this but still wont work on usbloader gx r899,game is mario and sonic at the olympic games,pal.
ive got oo2 fix on and region free games they play off disc but not loader,any1 know why?
i get a black screen.

Hi, Does anyone know how to find out the IOS needed for Alice in Wonderland because the IOS Patcher wont work with that game, Sorry for any troubles but just wondering if there is any other way of finding out,

excuse my ignorance,still new to all this softmod lark.
but can i not just google what ios a game needs,download it and save to sd card, then install wad with wadmanger?
i have a few games on my hard drive that refuse to run..thought this may be a short cut...input appreciated

I'll try this on my Wii Party. Having problems with black screen. I'm on FW4.0 Korean-region changed to US. It is a store-softmodded one so I have no idea which method was used, but I have HomeBrew.
Actually I have also tried TV system change, Error 2 fix. Got pass the Error 2 bug, the game loads till where it tells u to use the Remote-strap and agame loading screen shows u not to touch the power and reset button, then bam! Black screen! Anyone suffered from this problem too?

But I will try your method first and report if I'm successful. Thanks!
