tried new smb wii from USB loader gx.

Everything seemed to work fine and I turned on a few cheats but when I played the game they didn't seem to do anything. Tried a moonjump and a costume change that you press A button to use. I tried running the cheat file from sd and fat32 USB with no luck.

Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

Check the paths in the USB loader gx and or put the cheats on the root of the device and change the paths in the loaders .

You pick and choose and activate the codes. Lol

If it doesn't work try trouble shooting by test each code , only test three. Then go and re download the codes and make sure they are in the right paths as stated in the guide.

I'm gonna have to test this on a couple GameCube games and see if Ocarina can be used on them too. I know the menu in USB GX gives the option to use Ocarina on GameCube games as well but I don't know if it actually works with GC games.

Yeah, they work. Works the same way.

You might have to put the cheats to the root of the sd/ USB. That's what I had to do , for them to show up and work.

To Jax, SNES_Master, and any other moderators of interest:

Wow, am I glad to see cheat support allowed. Other members have not thought highly of cheats. There is more to cheat codes though than taking the fun out of a game granted by infinite health, ammo, etc. Cheats have been used to allow players to progress where Nintendo has caused game-breaking bugs (that the GNU community has done a better job of fixing). There are mods such as Project M and Brawl Minus that introduce incredible amounts of custom content in a game, essentially allowing the game to be reborn years later. There is also something about turning on beam expansions, screw attack, and rapid fire in the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes multiplayer that makes the experience incredibly fun without giving one player an advantage over another. Sure the game lags when we fire 15 super missiles at once, but we just sit back and laugh because we know the game isn't meant to handle it. Good times.

To get to the point: I have quite a wealth of information to contribute, but first I want to confirm it's okay to share it. In spite of the implicit permission stated in the first post of this thread, the forum rules still say that cheat support is not allowed in section I. 2. d. Am I correct in assuming we're ignoring that rule for this thread. Furthermore, does this permission extend to other threads as well?

I think I have information which will make managing cheat codes on the Wii much easier to understand. I made an all-around guide with a HUGE section on cheats (6+ pages on Microsoft Office Word at 12pt Calibri font, single-spaced) that I'd like to share as soon as the rules are clarified. If preferred, I can PM it to moderator first. I think it will help cut down in forum questions - I tried to address every probable scenario and function. Even more content is present for cheat code management for specific emulators. I'm also waiting to hear back from a moderator in the "Submitted Articles/ Tutorials" section for the whole guide.

It gives no help for cheating online, so it complies with the rules established in this thread.

Lastly, I thank the staff at Wiihacks who are reconsidering cheat support.

Things like theming and cheating were mainly frowned upon due to the negative effects it caused during the peak of it's popularity. Record number of consoles were being bricked due to theming, and the price of the consoles were still high. Cheats were being used for online gaming to common ordinary family type users, and it ruined their experiences to play a console they had spent a lot of money for.

Now we have reached that point in the console's life cycle when the costs are much lower, and most ordinary family based gamers have mostly moved on to other consoles.

As far as information goes, I would simply say you can submit any information you like. A staff member may wish to collaborate and/or confirm, but you will not be shut out for simply sharing information about cheating, as what was previously the case.

Please do submit a guide and it will be reviewed then posted in the appropriate section, if approved.
