Ive been reading all over and I keep seeing conflicting results on this.
If you have a backed-up game, does that still work, and what does not work with upgrading? Also... my son plays Mario Kart online... its a legal copy, but i guess... can someone please explain what happens on this upgrade.
What exactly works, and what doesnt work. Like games on DVD still work? Can you still install Wads?
Like I said... I have surfed 4 different sites, and each one says something different. For the record... we have a softmod, and not a hardmod. So if we can get some clarification on all of this... that would be great, or point me in the right direction.
Simple answer: Don't update! All it does is add some crappy way of playing old games off an sd card.

Thats fine... but I read, I think on here... someone wanted to play mario kart online, and was forced to update. For me... I like playing a lot of Tetris online. So yeah... Yeah i updated and everything is cool, but I just can't figure out how to get my wads to play off the sd card without saying load failed. I just can't figure out where to put them to make it work. with homebrew they still can be installed with wad manager and played right off the wii but when i try to move them it's a no go. anyone got any ideas or gotten it to work. If so please let me know. this sd card is begging to be filled.

However i read at hackmii that they have more exploits ready to roll....I would wait a while if i was you and see what happens.
Just got my DriveKey w/ X4 diode today. Installed it and the 4.0 fw update and all is well for me. Backups still play just fine after the 4.0 update (I tried one before upgrading to 4.0).
Never had homebrew installed though so I can't comment on that.

I still wouldn't update. Nintendo can update your Wii automatically and screw it up. Just wait until someone makes a cIOS that can install the new features on a 3.2 Wii.
