This is the first and only drive I've got like this so far. Most are still fine though, so my recommendation is to pick up a wii asap if you're in the market for one, otherwise it'll be a bit more work to get it modded.

Seems nintendo's newest trick is to add epoxy to the drive. Its a hard epoxy that covers the IC

Wouldn't something like thinners, slowly (and be careful) eat away at the Epoxy allowing them to be modded.

Well rather than going through that proces (thinners wont work on this epoxy , acid would), the alt points on the bottom are still there so its moddable still through the alt points on the bottom. I will install a mod using the alts when i get some time.

Thinners was an example. You can buy solutions to dissolve epoxy. It turns it into almost like chewy (gum). Allowing you to remove it. This is abit of a faff on but this by no means stops the Wii from being moddable (either by the chip or alt points).
AAAwwww HEEEEELLLLLLL NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THIS BLACK EPOXY COME BACK TO HAUNT ME AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! I've went through this nonsense with Microsoft xbox 360 drives.....NOW THIS!!!!!!!!AWWWWW HELLLLLLL NOOOOO MAN!!!!!!
