i did say possibly
there are quite a few different ones we came across, that was the one I remember reading most often, and was used on the 360 epoxy effectively. Though the wii compound is a bit different it isn't all that bad as initially thought.
One of the other ones I recall is pyridine (sp?) and (DMSO) dimethylsulfoxide

Arrow Epoxy Wiis have NOW hit NA in big way....

Wii epoxy covered dvd drive boards are here in a big way in the Greater Vancouver Lower Mainland (means southwest BC, canada..lol)

After talking with some other modders in eastern canada and in the usa...

seems to be in canada ..a bit earlier than the usa

Now have had the pleasure of modding 8 of these in the last 2 days...

2 ways that work so far....
  • 1 way is the [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] as he described in earlier posts and the other way..
  • simple wii drive premodded board swap...Great for ***DYI*** ..really simple and quick....just remove the original board from the drive...then install the replacement premodded drive board ....just 2 screws and 6 LARGE RUGGED Solder points with 5 color coded wires.....Presto!!! done.
with the 2nd method....you keep the original board for warranty purposes so your warranty is not voided

FYI:...can pretty well count on having these epoxy drive wiis if you are buying for xmas in december..

lol....just makes it all the more interesting.....it doesn't make it any harder at all with a premodded dvd drive board.....

It's probably easier....only need to solder 6 wires onto 6 large solder pads...
mind you ..instead of soldering onto the little ic legs and vias on the board...there's the additional expense of the replacement dvd drive board...
then you would still have warranty ....as your original isn't touched.

dremeling the epoxy or removing the epoxy is definitely not for the un-initiated....as it seems...some of the local modders have found out...then the customers bring them to us for repairs...

Ca

It's too late to stop the modding now. Nintendo will just have to do better next time

I just bought another Wii 2 days ago (12/5/08) here in the US and it has a D2E DVD drive but doesn't have epoxy on the drive. Either Nintendo is just really slow at rolling this out or they're not shipping the epoxy drives everywhere.

Ive had some in the range where epoxy should be on it but had it not have the epoxy so it seems that it is infact random still and only way to know for sure is open the system up.

Hmm, would it be safe to assume sending a Wii into Nintendo to fix a banner brick that they are going to add the Epoxy to the drive? I have shown interest in getting a Wii mod chip just never able to shell out the money. More of a DS Homebrew guy.

Help help help

to begin i have modded many wii's in the past with all different chips but lately have been using wiikey v2 with no problems at all, until 2 days ago i recieved a wii serial leh252......... upon opening i noticed it was a d2e without epoxy had a little chuckle to myself about how easy this was going to be until i installed the wiikey v2 plugged in the wii everything went normal lights flashed on the wiikey disk started spinning dashboard came on then drive made a noise lights on the wiikey flashed again and it just kept repeating itself again and again after going thro my wiring endless amounts of times i decided to use/try my own wii drive from my personal wii in it just to check and mine did the same thing.

Next i tried the d2e drive in my own wii and finally it worked so i know the wiikey works and there is nothing wrong with my soldering after trying and trying i decided to try the config disk in the wii that booted up fine no problems after trying this disk i try another and nothing it does the same thing its almoast as if the wii is keep restarting the drive board the wii does this with both origonal's and backups unless its the config disk in which case works fine.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME???? "BEFORE I PULL MY HAIR OUT"
