Question I want to install a Modchip. Info Please?

Hi as you can see i am new to forums. I want to buy and install a mod chip for my wii. Anything "Important" i should know about installing one? I have read a lot of stuff on this topic on these forums and there is a couple things that worries me...
(1.) You must always have the lastest firmware installed on your wii if your connecting to the internet, or your wii will be bricked?! - - I may have misread this but, is this true, should i do a firmare updated before doing anything online, are mod chips safe to use?
(2.) Installing the modchip, is this easy, complicated, a step by step guide would be useful, i have found many but i am not sure which one would be the best, i read that D2CPro9 is the best to use? What are the features of the D2CPro9?
(3.) What are the risks of using a modchip? Example, if i were to run a back-up of one of my wii games (A Copied wii game on dvd) Are there any risks of doing that, as for going online with a mod chip installed?

Cons and pros of the D2CPro9, please? I saw a list made by "n3mp0" sticked but i did not see any information about this one. Sorry for all the questions and thankyou for the answers, i reply fast. Thanks again.

Ahh yes 1 thing i forgot, could replace a modchip affect emulators run by the homebrew channel? Example: I run wii64, plays n64 games. After installing the mod chip i recognize that the emulator is running flawlessly, i am pretty sure changing the mod chip won't change how emu's work but it was just something that entered my mind.

    1) not true
    2) if you have never done soldering then it can be complicated..there are 3 solder points directly to the ic legs 2 of which are side by side. if this is first time soldering i would think twice about doing it urself
    3) no risk of using modchip

dont use d2cpro9 as its a clone chip...you can buy those chips for $8...get urself a proper modchip like d2pro9 v2, wasabi 2 or argon

Is there any disadvantages of using this method if i do, do it this way? Is there a local store i can buy it from? If not, a trust worthy site? Link would be usefull. Thanks again to both of you.

ouch 100$... Its all good i'll be willing to pay that. Also, will this work with my wii, no matter what, or do i have to take it apart and check?

I live in C.A. Their site says:

Shipping Destinations: We ship to Canada & US only. For US there are some restrictions. We no longer ship intl.

What does, we no longer ship intl, mean?

it's best to check and see what drive chip you have in your wii before ordering. When did you purchase your Wii? As far as what intl. means, it just means they ship to US and Canada only, no international shipments.
