Official: Microsoft extends 90-day warranty to a full year.
Put that extended warranty down! Do not buy that service plan, despite how convincing that slick Gamestop salesperson is! According to the NeoGAF forums, Microsoft will issue the above statement tomorrow, magically transforming your measly 90-day warranty into a powerful 365-day warranty. Let's hope this little Christmas bonus pans out

Question is will Sony now follow the example by giving a 1 year warranty on the PS3?

That's great news, especially for me since I tend to leave my 360 on all night with FFXI on. Thanks for the heads up!

I wonder how this affects people like me who have already bought the 2 year extended warranty? Does the 2 year automatically get tagged on after the one year expires, giving a 3 year warranty or does it stay the same and I only have the 2 year? How does it work with refurbished replacement consoles?
I'm going to have to phone support and see how all this is going down.

This is a great move by MS. Now that they are turning a profit on the consoles I am glad they are giving us better Customer support.
