Nintendo DSi XL to launch on March 5th

Latest iteration of hugely successful handheld gets European and UK release date

MCV can reveal that Nintendo will launch the DSi XL in Europe and the UK on March 5th.
The fourth iteration follows in the footsteps of the original DS, the DS Lite and last year’s DSi.

It features by far the largest screen ever seen on a Nintendo handheld, with its 4.2 inches representing a 93 per cent hike over the screens on the DS Lite.
When it launches the new portable will come pre-loaded with two games – Dr Kawashima’s Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition and Dictionary: 6 in 1. There’s also the in-built web browser and other functions the DSi introduced to the format.
Red and Dark Brown SKUs will be available at launch.

4.2 Inches, that's quite an increase.

[DELETED] Anyways the main problem that this thing faces is the fact that with those bigger screens they apparently have the same resolution as the regular DSi's, so that = fail.

If you didn't have anything usefull to say in the first sentence then please....don't say it. We don't care that you don't care about a release in another country. There are some people, belive it or not, that live in other countries.

    Way to FAIL!

I was wondering about the resolution. The DS resolution is pretty rubbish at 256 x 192, not sure about DSi or XL.

I'm not fussed on the way they keep bringing out supposed better models, which probably means that Joe Public will feel it necessary to go out and buy the latest re-design.

They probably should probably evolve the DS into a DS2 or something rather than doing this XL rubbish.

Anything to milk more currency from "joe public". Companies have been doing it for years, and it works cause as you said, people feel the need to keep buying a re-design. So my take is...blame the consumer not the company, lol.

In case you were wondering Tone, here is a good comparision between the DSi, PSP, and the IPODs different resolutions. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-dsi-vs-psp-3000-vs-ipod-touch-v1-0/ so yes the DS is pretty fail. And the XL will in fact carry over the same resolution as the DS/DSi so UBER FAIL!

Was browsing using my Daughter's Ipod touch and you could tell the screen was pretty high resolution considering the size. I'd imagine browsing with any kind of DS would be a very nasty experience, as would watching a video clip.

I noticed the intro/warning screen on the DSI don't look as good as on the DS lite, probably because the graphics are getting streched, but I haven't noticed anything wrong graphics related with the DSi during game play. I wonder when the USA release of DSi XL is going to be announced?

Pretty much the same time frame as the Euro market. Sometime 1st quarter of this year.
