Arrow 4.2 update is bricking Wii's

After 4.2 update, some Wii owners reporting their Wii is broken. In Nintendo's quest to put an end to the homebrew channel, the 4.2 update is bricking Wii's that have never been modified. Here is a quote from Nintendo support -

"Some of you have reported problems with your Wii console after updating to the Wii System Menu 4.2. The symptoms most people are describing usually occur when the Wii has been modified. However, some of you also mention your system has never been modified.

We'd like to help get your system working properly again. If you're experiencing problems with your Wii console after downloading Wii System Menu 4.2, and you believe your system has not been modified, please give us a call. If we find that you have a normal system and the update caused your system to not work, we'll repair it at no charge."

here is the updated post at Nintendo support
    Hello again,

We wanted to provide a bit more information.

In reading your posts on this topic, there is a perception that 'lots and lots' of people are having problems with their Wii console after having downloaded the Wii System Menu 4.2.

At this point, the number of people who have had a problem is extremely small, and in fact, we have found we can help a good portion of people with troubleshooting to the point that there is no repair necessary. For the vast majority of Wii owners who have downloaded system menu update (SMU) 4.2 there have been no issues.

Anyone who experiences an issue with their Wii after downloading SMU 4.2 should contact Nintendo customer support, and we will work with you to address your specific concerns.

Please give us a call at your convenience at 1-800-255-3700. We are open 6 AM to 7 PM, Pacific Time, 7 days a week.

    Thank you,

You can also view all the customer complaints, here techforums.nintendo.com

Looks to me that Nintendo is going to have a lot of pissed off customers, I wonder if this will drive the price of the Wii back up to what it was a few weeks ago.

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII TO 4.2, EVEN IF IT IS NOT MODIFIED, UPDATE AND RISK BRICKING.

class action, no doubt. Looks like the modded wii's are safe, while the unmodded wii's are getting the brick.

EDIT - safe in terms of when waninkoko releases 4.2 updater.

Well Marcan one of Team Twiizers coders stated that the new Boot that the update installs is buggy as all hell and so they had to recode it.

    EPIC FAIL from Nintendo.

Tech support even admits that the new update was aimed at modified Wii's, and "sorry" if your unmodded Wii got caught in the crossfire. Things aint looking well for Ninty.

Its quite sad that they went all out but I guess they are trying to run a business and when you have thousands of people watching videos on youtube and reading on forums that you can hack your Wii things get out of hand.

EDIT: I reckon before the end of next month there will be another official update to fix these problems.

How many people do you think really hack their Wii's?
    1 out of 500 !?!.
Is it really worth it for them to stop the hacking?

to above person: nobody will stop hacking there wii's unless they are cowards =D lol
    it's $200 atm.
I would personally sue nintendo if I DIDN'T mod my wii and they bricked it. But I did mod it.
Good thing I did not update! =D I think nintendo has to understand homebrew before they do stuff like these updates. They probably don't know what cios's do and what version and I bet here is what nintendo does when they release a firmware update.

nintendo nerds: duhh.... *inputs code and randomly names it* [insert firmware version here]

duhh.... update no. 5604 is available for your console... it wont brick...we...promise

    LOL

    Look at it this way;
1 million units sold and 1 thousand of them are hacked.
