4.2 update is bricking Wii's

After 4.2 update, some Wii owners reporting their Wii is broken. In Nintendo's quest to put an end to the homebrew channel, the 4.2 update is bricking Wii's that have never been modified. Here is a quote from Nintendo support -

Looks to me that Nintendo is going to have a lot of pissed off customers, I wonder if this will drive the price of the Wii back up to what it was a few weeks ago.

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII TO 4.2, EVEN IF IT IS NOT MODIFIED, UPDATE AND RISK BRICKING.

Sounds like a magor law suit waiting to happen......

class action, no doubt. Looks like the modded wii's are safe, while the unmodded wii's are getting the brick.

Well Marcan one of Team Twiizers coders stated that the new Boot that the update installs is buggy as all hell and so they had to recode it. :p

EPIC FAIL from Nintendo.

Tech support even admits that the new update was aimed at modified Wii's, and "sorry" if your unmodded Wii got caught in the crossfire. Things aint looking well for Ninty.

Its quite sad that they went all out but I guess they are trying to run a business and when you have thousands of people watching videos on youtube and reading on forums that you can hack your Wii things get out of hand.

EDIT: I reckon before the end of next month there will be another official update to fix these problems.

How many people do you think really hack their Wii's?

it's $200 atm.
I would personally sue nintendo if I DIDN'T mod my wii and they bricked it. But I did mod it.
Good thing I did not update! =D I think nintendo has to understand homebrew before they do stuff like these updates. They probably don't know what cios's do and what version and I bet here is what nintendo does when they release a firmware update.

nintendo nerds: duhh.... *inputs code and randomly names it* [insert firmware version here]

duhh.... update no. 5604 is available for your console... it wont brick...we...promise
