The Wii's Internet Channel has a new update available, one of the new features includes compatibility with the latest version of Abode Flash allowing for more site to be accessed. The Internet Channel is now available to download free as is the Nintendo DSi web browser. For those who paid for the Internet Channel in the past, Nintendo will allow you to download a free Virtual Console game worth 500 Nintendo points as a reimbursement. This special offer will run from October for the rest of the year so keep an eye out for an official starting date, aww... that's so sweet of you Nintendo!
EDIT: Found a little bit more info from an email someone received form Nintendo.
Nintendo would like to inform you that an update to the Internet Channel is available.
Included in this update is a never version of Adobe Flash, making even more website content available to you.
Until now the Internet Channel was available to download from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points. However, as Nintendo encourages all customers and their families to enjoy browsing from their sofas, the Internet Channel can now be downloaded for free.
For those that have purchased the Internet Channel for 500 Wii Points before, a special offer will be available from late October until the end of December. During this time period, you will be able to download a Virtual Console NES title worth 500 Wii Points for free.
When the exact time period for this offer is finalised, a notification will be sent out via the Wii Message Board and posted on the Nintendo of Europe Website.
That 500 point refund is AWESOME but all I want to know is if I can use the refund with the 500 points I already have.
BONUS NEWS POINTS AWARDED + 250

I guess I will wait for the wad to surface..
PLEASE SEARCH, READ, AND THINK BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
Don't forget the thanks button...
Here is a quote from the nintendo site, "If you have previously used 500 Wii Points to download the Internet Channel, at the end of October we will be offering you the opportunity to download, at no cost, one NES game of your choice (valued at 500 Wii Points) from the Virtual Console catalog. Details of this download offer will be provided via the Wii Message Board and on Nintendo.com soon". So it looks like you just get a VC game, not 500 points to do what you want.
So I can only download a NES VC game. Looks like I better make it a good one.
I just read in GBAtemp that many ppl did an official download and the had no problem at all. Also, i found a solutiion if ppl get an error:
Quote from "xumasso" in GBAtemp.net
the thread is HERESome people are having problems updating...more specifically error 202011
Here is some instructions how to solve it:
I will just assume that you have an illegal installation of the old internet channel:
You will need:
- "Homebrew channel" installed (that i think that you already have)
- "Wad Manager 1.4" or 1.5
- "Internet channel.wad" (the same wad that you used to install the channel previously)
The process is simple... (I'm not gonna explain here to put the files... )
1- Open the HomeBrewChannel
2- execute o Wad Manager 1.4
3- browse to the "internet channel.wad"
4- set the "Wad Manager" to uninstall this wad...
5- That's it... Now you just need to install the new internet channel as it should be done normally.
Don't worry if you have already uninstalled the channel by the official way ... You will need to do this process anyway to make it to work even though the unistalation gives an error message ... It will work...
Haven't tested it by the way, ppl say it works. if it still does not work, one has installed again the old internet channel as a wad, and then uninstalled via wad manager, then it worked

Heh, or could this be Nintendo's trick/ace in the hole against homebrew??
Mehh, but a free game worth 500 pts is nice
but to those who didn't pay its free
edit: just realized what you said... 500points are returned, internet channel is free for all
I'm surprised they didnt do this sooner and I wonder if this'll mean more websites will cater for wii users.
