Soft Modded Wii, Need some help and not sure where to post as its game related

    Hi Guys

Sorry of this is in the wrong place I have only just joined and new to it and could not decide on the best place to post this issue up.

Basically I have a wiihacks soft modded wii. I am using USB loader GX and its a new black wii.

I have all games backedup onto hard drive and one is COD MW3. I went to do the online two player mode with brother here and it said the game needs an update.

Anyway the person who put the wiihacks soft mod onto my system said not to update the wii firmware or put games in and do updates BUT does anyone know if I can do the MW3 update as the games on an external hard drive?

This is my daughters wii and I dont want to break / brick it but I do want to use the games we have and do the coop mode on MW3 with my brother.

Any help or advice will be appreciated as I am new to this but have it here ot explain what system I have and can answer anything people need to be able to help me.

    Thanks in advance

    :-)

I had the same issuses myself with Conduit 2 with online play as this too was asking for updates! This is what i learned myself, having a softmod wii should not ruin your game play what so ever. The update that the game is asking for will not update your system menu, i believe the update is for a save file for the game. That's what i read so i went ahead with a lump in my throat and did the update for Conduit 2.

And all is well i can now play online.

Things to remember never never except an update from a disc in the normal wii menu and never update from the wii settings menu!!!

Having Priiloader installed and blocking disc and online updates is highly advised.

    Hope this helps.

Ok well the game turns on, I go to play the co-op mode and it says an update needed for online play so you say safe?

I have preloader on my card and installed but note sure its installed if that makes sense?

Any advice as to how to do this? We dont play any games direct now from the disc to prevent as many errors as we can, we instantly back them up onto my 1TB drive but I was worried when this game asked for an update.

So you still think safe and go for it?

    Cheers

Well first thing, you will know if Priiloader is installed by pressing the reset button as soon as you press the power button as this will load priiloader. I persume you haven't checked or enabled hacks for priiloader?

To put your mind at ease I'm also running usb loader gx and yes i did update through the game for online play. And yes this was through my HDD.

Like i mentioned earlier just don't except a update from a disc in the disc channel in the wii menu or update in the settings menu of the wii!!!

I believe the update for online play is for a save file.

I did this update for Conduit 2 and all is well for me.

To be safe i would check that you have priiloader installed and the nessaray hacks enabled.

I know I have preloader in my homebrew channel but I am pretty sure its not been setup or installed to run. do I just load it and then click to install or something? I have looked but it says about if things go wrong it can cause more problems - sorry new to this, but will do the game update as you said :-)

I dont run discs through the normal way ever now to be safe and never go into wii options for an update on system fireware. I put a disc in, back it up to my HDD and then run that.

So I guess all will and should be ok?

Firstly check to see if you have priiloader installed. If you haven't run the app and install. You have to press + to install.
After installation has finished you will be returned to the homebrew channel. Now press and hold reset and this will load priiloader menu, scroll down and select system menu hacks and enable the following hacks:-

    1) Block disc updates.
    2) Block dig: disc checks.
    3) Block online updates.

With regards to priiloader causing more problems, every app that you use could cause problems if not used correctly and not any research done before using said app.

Hope this helps and enjoy your online game.

Hopefully i will have MW3 soon but for some reason the wife is stopping me from getting it, so i think i know what i have got for christmas lol.

You are welcome mate, i take it you can play online now with your brother?

Now with regards to the hacks they should be in the app file with priiloader I.E.:-

    boot.dol
    png image
    meta.xml
    hacks

You are on system menu 4.1 using the guide here which is good and you should have the hacks on the sd card. I've just had a look at the download pack and the hacks should be on the root of your sd card. If it is try moving the hack file to the priiloader file in apps.

It would be a good idea to have these hacks in place so that if you put a disc in via the wii channel it will not ask you for a update.

    Hey there.

I myself have Modern Warfare 3 for the Wii and from my experience it only updates multiplayer things like lagshooting, hit detection, nerfing a gun etc... it doesn't affect your system menu. So I think its safe because it will just touch some game files not your system menu files.
