Someone got a new PC: guess who?

So Bandicoot needed a new PC to spice up the video-editing and animations a little bit. With my previous PC, I simply got killed by the render times in Sony Vegas and Cinema 4D. I also had very much trouble running After Effects smoothly with it. So I bit the bullet, and built myself a new PC.

    Specifications:
    - GIGABYTE GA-P67-DS3-B3 (1155 socket, 4x SATA II, 2x SATA III)
    - Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Quad Core 3.3GHz (3.7GHz with Turbo Boost)
    - Scythe Shuriken Rev. B (aftermarket CPU heatsink)
    - G.Skill 8 GB DDR3-1333 Kit (2x 4GB)
    - MSI Radeon HD6670 GDDR5 (1GB, 128 Bit, VGA-DVI-HDMI)
    - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5'' HDD (SATA 600, 7200RPM)
    - OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W
    - ASUS DRW-24B3ST DVD-Drive
    - Sharkoon T9 Value White Edition Case
    - Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

This is a killer rig, if I say so myself, especially for its price. It cost me 665 euros including P&P, and it's just so fast, and everything runs so smoothly. I decided to skimp on the graphics card a little bit, because I don't play ANY games on a computer AT ALL, consoles all the way for that. The Radeon HD 6670 is more than enough for video-editing, photoshopping and making animations.

I decided to go with the i5-2500K, because it's just a very fast and good performing CPU, especially considering its price. The i7-2600K would have been even faster, due to its HyperThreading mode, but it wasn't worth the extra 80 euros, if you ask me. I won't be overclocking my CPU anytime soon, because the Turbo Boost to 3.7GHz is definitely a nice little boost, and everything runs just so smoothly that I think it's not worth the risk of overclocking. Its performance is just outstanding the way it is right now.

4GB of RAM seems to be the standard at the moment, buy slowly everyone's doing 8GB instead, so I went with 8GB, too. I got sticks with heatsinks, so I can't resist to overlock them from 1333 to 1600 or 1866MHz. In the near future I will get another 8GB, before they run out of this awesome little set. It cost me 45 euros, can you believe it, lol?

I was considering an SSD, but decided to leave it out in the end. A 120GB SSD still costs about 150-160 euros, and that's not worth it to me. I will consider buying an SSD once they drop in price quite a bit.

Thanks for reading, lol. I am very happy and satisfied with this build, it's probably my best one so far. Feel free to insult my build if you hate it, or start drooling if you like it. I will try to get some pics up of the hardware tommorow, or the day after.

    Cheers!

Haha, yep, I've seen that one. Throwing out a plastic case actually took longer than deleting a certain amount of Gigs, lol. And he went jumping on a trampoline with the SSD's in his hand, lol.

    Great.

I've been thinking of building a pc myself as well (not enought $ atm).

Cool. My Win7 PC still has 1GB of RAM(yes, I know). The other running Vista has 2GB of RAM.

The 1GB pc boots faster than the 2GB one thanks to its dual core processors.

I really recommend building your own. It's cheaper, lot of fun to do, and you can pick exactly what you want, and don't want. Just awesome. I haven't bought an OEM computer ever since I was 8 or so, but I built my PC back then with the help of my father. An 8 yrs old can't build his own PC, lol.

I have taken some pics, but I am really a horrible photographer. Do you guys still want to see what I have taken? I will make some snapshots of temps, render times and the Windows Experience Index, and then upload them.

OK, here are some pics, but don't expect any detailed stuff. I need some more space to take some good pics of it. Don't expect anything special to see, because I can't get a right angle to take a good picture on my desk. It's still pretty darkish inside the case, so I am planning to get some lights, or even a new CPU cooler. Yes, a new CPU cooler. From what I've been reading, this cooling is ''sufficient'', and it is, but I want ''good'' or ''great'' temps. On full-load the CPU easily hits 55C. I was originally aiming for something like 48C or something like that on full-load. So I've been looking around for a replacing cooler, and this is the one that came out best, and it even has a blue LED to light the case a little bit.

    Hardware Pics

    Software Pics (soon)
