I'm trying to replace the DVD drive in my red wii so that I will be able to play backed up gamecube games and possibly load Rome from a DVD. What DVD drive should I get ( which would be the best choice )?

I don't really think there is a best choice. Anything before a D3-2 will work. But for the cost and effort you might as well buy a HDD and go that route. You'll be happier in the end. HDD outperforms DVD any day because DVDs run at half the speed of an original disc which leads to skipping, slowdown, and long load times on some games. Plus it will save you money in the long run not having to repeatedly buy DVDs.
Is there a stable way to play gamecube back ups off of an external hdd? I have a 500GB that I've been using for wii back ups.Quote:
