Connecting Wii to LAN without Internet Access

    Hi Guys

Ok Google has turned up nothing and neither has a search on the forums. I'm not sure if I'm putting in the correct search terms so if anyone has already discussed this appologies in advance.

My Problem - OK I softmodded my wii primarilly for use as a media centre to stream all of my movies etc. Unfortunetly I can only afford internet through a broadband dongle and although yes I could get it to connect through my PC wirelessly by setting up the computer as a soft router, what I would rather do is run the wii through my LAN.

My question is this. I don't need internet on the wii, I merly want to get the wii to connect to my LAN so it can access the share on my network with all of my films. After trying to set this up in the wii internet settings (and failing due to connection test) my question is the following

How the hell is this done!!!!

Shift_Lock - Thankyou very much for your fast response. What I am looking to do is get the wireless to pass the connection test in order for me to connect wirelessly into my network. The questions that I need answering is

1 - when the wii connects using homebrew / wiimc does it do a connection test?
2 - when setting the wificonnection up under system settings, where does this test go and what information is sent back?
3 - If I can set up a static route on my router and then write a program to respond from one of my network boxes can i redirect the connection test to effectivelly lie to the wii telling it that it is online (I am a fairly good programmer).

You will have to excuse my ignorance, I have only been playing with my wii for a very short period of time. I can certainly obtain the data using something like wireshark but as i understand it, I would need to be online to get everything I needed. If someone has already started on something like this then I would be quite prepared to collaborate and perhaps share our skills?

1 - when the wii connects using homebrew / wiimc does it do a connection test?It only needs to do the connection test once when setting up.. after that its a user option to check your connection.
2 - when setting the wificonnection up under system settings, where does this test go and what information is sent back?I dont know where the info goes.... I didnt think it went anywhere other then the info it puts on screen.
