Homebrew on 4.3u without a working DVD?

So long story short: Wii DVD broke. Tried replacing laser, no fix. Tried replacing motor, kind of fixed, but couldn't tweak the torx bits on the motor right, so it would either grind, or not spin at all. Sometimes a game would load, but other times it wouldn't.

Was going to get a Wode, and probably still will, but with no working DVD I can't exploit with an Indy Jones disc because no DVD means no discs of course so I can't enjoy the fun of homebrew and emulators and such.

If I get the Wode, and run the iso for Indy to exploit will that still work for installing homebrew on a 4.3u updated Wii? One of my main desires is to play emus.

    Any insights?

This is the Lounge, where people can relax and chat off-topic, not a helping board.

If your main purpose is to use emulators, you don't need to softmod your Wii.

Not so. To play emulators you need to install custom software that changes the behavior of hardware... which is what softmodding is.
    Damn I suck!!!!

IOS58 is used for emulators, right? That's an official IOS installed already.

    I know what softmodding does.
    I study for everything hardware/software.

    Spoiler

Makes no difference what IOS they use and if it's installed already. You still need to make modifications to the wii to use emulators, therefor you need to softmod.

IOS58 won't help you use an emulator if you don't have the emulator or a way to run the emulator

My point is, when people say "you don't need to softmod if you just want to use HBC or emulators" it makes no sense as that is a form of softmodding. I'm just being difficult
    Damn I suck!!!!

BUT, once you get the Homebrew Channel, your Wii is still not what you call softmodded. The cIOS is what does the softmod.
But I get your point, though. You still need custom software to actually make the Wii run these emulators.

Again, I disagree. It's not what you call softmodded maybe...but it is a form of softmod (read the definition of a soft modification).

As you said though...I think you get my point.

Now that I have hijacked the thread.

OP - As far as I know you need the exploit to be launched from the disc....so this won't work even if you have a WODE (as your drive is broken). Of course I could be wrong as it's an optical drive emulator and I know very little about the WODE.

I understand. Any software based modification made to the Wii system is a form of a softmod. It's just me who saw the cIOS as a softmod only.

Hands down... You win the discussion. I'm only 17 years old, so what did you expect? XD

Guess I'll confirm that you're wrong. Sorry, Krank. xD

But now a bit serious. I have a WODE, and broken DVD drive or not, it should work --- at least if it's physically. Let's say the ribbon cable is broken, it will not work.

Replace the DOL of any game you legaly own with the HackMii Installer, boot it via the WODE and you have the Homebrew Channel.
