Question Why do people virginize their Wii's?

I actually asked that question on one of the guides, but it was poorly worded and I ended up offending someone by accident. I thought the user could help me understand, but he shot me down faster than a girl I asked out last week (j/k).

I do understand that some people believe that an virgin Wii is less likely to brick from updates (which of course isn't true), and others think that you have to remove hacks to resoftmod (which is also wrong). After learning that a modded Wii is less likely to brick and can usually be fixed, or that virginizing is an unnecessary step to softmodding, most people change their mind. However, there are still those who still are determined to remove all hacks.

I just don't get it. Why would people want fewer features and no brick protection? It's not like virginizing is a risk-free process either. I'm not bashing the virginizing guides on here, but you can't deny that there are risks, especially if instructions are followed 100%. Anyone who has spent much time answering guide-related questions knows that people misread instructions or ignore warnings.

If anyone understands the logic behind removing softmods (other than being misinformed), I would really appreciate you explaining it to me.

I don't get it either, maybe they think they have to restart and can't continue? I certainly like mine hacked, I've done the psp, wii, ipod touch, and ds lite.

Maybe, if they realize it's over their head so they just want it all gone...

Maybe they need to send it to nintendo for repair and think nintendo won't notice.

Don't understand it, either. I guess that they think Nintendo knows it better than the hackers??

Nintendo can't see if you modded your Wii if it's virginized; at least not if every single trace of homebrew is deleted.

    Popular reasons I've seen:

    Returning to Nintendo
    Selling Wii
Don't want to keep manually updating and want to go back to the official Nintendo way
    Panic
Not fully understanding what they are doing and inserting it as a necessary step to achieve what they are trying to do
    Used external fail guide
    Trying to un-install failcorp
