[Venting] I hate providing PC support to parents!

I hate when my mom calls me with dumb PC questions! She'll actually call me up with such vacant statements as, "There is a box on my computer that says yes or no. Should I press yes?" with no explanation behind it what so ever. Or I'll have to go through a half hour discussion with her just to find out her firewall is trying to add an exception for the new Bejewled game my step dad bought her. I think there is nothing more frustrating than being her personal it guy! Sometimes I feel like telling her to call actual technical support but I would feel bad for the technical support person I unleashed her on.

My feelings are summed up in this song. I know the video is god awful but it's the point of the song.

Ugh, I know just how you feel. I get so sick of getting asked computer questions by my parents, grandparents, and brother. I used to like it, but now it is just so time consuming. When my Mom has a computer problem at work, she figures "Why call tech support when I can just call my son three times a day?" Sometimes she calls about other people's computers too.

What's worse is when I don't know the answer, but if I tell her that she assumes I am just refusing to help.

Yeah, it's always nice to know others are suffering as well.

I feel you pain, my mom pulled me out of be this morning just to help her re-enable the firefox navigation bar. Then she gives me hell for sleeping to much and not helping her quickly enough. Thank god for teamviewer.

I feel and share your pain. I've been into computers of all types since I was 14 (about two fold ago age-wise, lol). I really hate it when you fix someone's stuff and tell'em "whatever you do, don't do X." I got a call like that the other day. "Hey, this is Hank. My PC crashed so I went into BIOs and somehow disabled my drives and the system doesn't see them anymore." This from the guy who did this before and disabled the SATA controller. Nice. Of course when I fixed it the first time, I told him to stay OUT of the BIOS and not to mess with things he doesn't understand. You see where this was headed, right? Hence the call I got the other day. I'm thinking to myself "god, I got to do this by phone otherwise the dummy's gonna want to bring it over and sweat me about his blah-blah."

Back when I was in high school, I used to spend my summers working at a college IT department. We always had about 5 or 6 computers waiting to be fixed, so we were always busy. I got so tired of people thinking that they were priority number 1, and getting upset when I couldn't help them for a few hours.

The one thing that I loved about that job is that you can tell so much about a person by their computer, especially how they spend their time. Once I found out that a guy had been playing a Star Wars game. Too bad uninstalling it doesn't clean the registry.

@richardsito I just tell my mom she is too old to be using facebook.
