    What do you use?

I have been reading around and everyone seems to be using torrents to download their "backups". Do you all use torrents or do some of you use the awesome and amazing newsgroups like I do? I've always had issues with torrents i.e. slow download speeds incredibly long download times, etc. I've never had an issue using newsgroups.

why I prefer torrents is because the ISOs that the torrent brings down works perfect and if the power goes out and it comes back on and you start the program again...it continues where it left out. I think newsgroup cannot continue where it stops.
Thanks everyone for the great support.
Hope to hear from you soon, cause i'm getting ready to retire from the modding scene.

Oh yeah it can, you use a downloader i.e. newsleacher that autosaves every 30 seconds or minute, depending on how you set it up, and it always backs up the queue into a cache. They download each file individually and you can use a program called quickpar to verify the data and repair if need be. There are a lot of different news servers. I have been using them for about 6 years now and have never had issues. It's a constant speed, people use data verification, I can get the newest games the day of or the day before the release.

I tested using Newsgroups just to learn how this whole usenet stuff worked using a free 3-day unlimited account from hitnews.eu (LINK and Alt.binz newsreader LINK and I must admit it is awsome when used in conjunction with NZB directory sites like nzbmatrix, nzbsrus, newzleech, etc.

Once you run out of free trial, the best deal going is $11/mth unlimited plan from astraweb LINK if you are serious about using newsgroups.

@DJKrafty, Which newsreader and sites do you use?

I've got an all in one, I use a newsleecher beta that has a search and post option and my server is usenetserver. They have a globalsearch option that you can build nzbs with that works really well. I use newzbin for browsing, just to see what's been posted. I pay 15 bucks a month and totally make up for it in the value of products I have.

Along with Dark Mod, torrents man, all the way! For a great torrent site, i highly recommend:

TORRENTS | TO | Your BitTorrent Search

It's like a framed website that search all the usual sites for whatever you need. Give a try and let us know what you think of it.

See, you guys keep raving about these torrents, but that's how people get caught, they're uploading and downloading. Newsgroups are straight download and you never have to share or post anything. I just can't stand torrents because they are unreliable speed-wise. If I want a game I can easily find it and have it downloaded and burned in about 2 hours flat, 3 and a half for an xbox 360 game. I just don't see that happening with torrents, I've tried different "popular" titles that just came out and my max DL would always be somewhere around 400-500k. With newsgroups I can always pull an easy 1.6MB download speed thanks to my connection. You can't beat that with a torrent.
