Gaming on a Plasma tv

I have heard conflicting reports from friends regarding how safe it is to play games on a plasma tv. Some have told me that if you game for long periods on plasma tv's that the image will burn in, or you may see some ghosting. I am just wondering if anyone has been gaming on a plasma or their experiences using them. I currently dont' have a plasma tv but, I may get one eventually so I am just a little concerned.

Thanks

Interesting article thanks.

I also had heard of this and when my wife and I were looking for a new TV we looked at LCD's. We decided to wait but this article helps for when we actually go looking again.

I have a Phillips plasma and although plasmas do burn in a lot easier than LCDs, it shouldn't be much different from watching TV. Also, the Wii apparently has a function to prevent this. Can anyone elaborate on this feature?

Thanks Retro, He seemed hesitant to do any hardcore gaming on a plasma. I wonder if anyone has tested one without fear of buring images into the set?

So thus far you haven't exerpienced any problems? Would you consider yourself your use of the plasma as a video game display to be "heavy"? Thus far it still seems an lcd is best for a game system. Hopefully they can work out some of the issues with the plasma

I think LCD is the way to go for now since it is the safest and least expensive way to get a good quality picture. I'm sure Plasma TV's will make leaps and bounds this year as manufacturers are faced with all of these new consoles and forms of media entertainment such as Blue Ray DVD, etc.

Plasma vs LCD is more of a personal question of what type of picture do you like. Cnet has some good guides when looking for a new tv. Plasmas do have Burn ins if the screen has a picture on it for too long. some instances of this occured with Halo 2 health bars burning in on the screen. the most common type of burn in is watching 4:3 images on a wide screen and getting the bars to remain there but logos can also burn in on a screen. most warranties do not cover burn ins and it takes a lot of work to lessen the burn ins and it does not always work. i recommend getting a LCD. LCD are selling A LOT better than plasmas. I personally have a LCD and prefer it to plasmas. but thats just me. read up on all of the tvs before you buy one though.

My plasma TV is very new and I haven't gamed on it yet until I get my Wii. Or I can move my SNES to it....nah It should depend on what game you're playing. For example, I can see Zelda's HUD burning into the screen but another game such as Warioware should have no problems. Does anyone know how long it takes for plasmas to start burning in?
I bought a plasma TV because I don't need to change bulbs. If gaming on a plasma is really that bad then I can easily switch to my smaller LCD.
Also, do plasmas still burn in quick if the HUD is semi-transparent?
