I connect to the internet via the Wii lan adapter. I just plug my ethernet connection to the lan adapter and my cable modem connection is then on my Wii. How would a firewall work in my situation since as you know there is no firewall bundled with a cable modem connection....?

im on my wii right now as i write this, i dont have any problems using the internet browser. like oddgriffen said, there is no file system to be virused on the wii, it uses "flash memory" to run, which emptys the second you move on to the next page or url. no problems except that it took about ten minutes to write this. have fun with it.

hmm, so that means one would not be able to watch movies via that internet channel then? what I mean by that is you know how people upload an entire movie online, right. if you go to that site then you can view the movie via a streaming video. with the wii using "flash memory" will I still be able to view these streaming movies via the wii internet channel?

I think that is really my only concern. I trying to figure out the limitations of the internet channel on the wii. If it really is as you say it is as far as safety goes then IF streaming video/movies are able to be watched via the wii internet channel then it would be better to use that medium as opposed to my laptop because the no virus possibility on the wii's internet channel.... but I may be dreaming here...

    Okay. For the virus issue...

Usually on a computer, you get a virus through 1 of 2 ways:
    -Downloading a file
-Hacker hijacking your browser, or Javascript downloader, or just basically getting the virus through browsing

    On a wii, though:
    1. You can't download files on Internet Channel
    2. The Wii is not Windows-based, so is NOT vulnerable to the same hacks that Windows is vulnerable to. Same case with Macs.

So, to summarize, you aren't likely to get a virus on the wii.

    Streaming videos:
Do you mean a site like Megavideo? I know Youtube works.

Yes, I am referring to sites like Megavideo because there are entire movies that can be viewed online on Megavideo. Would sites like that work via the Wii internet channel?

I don't know. If you try and view a Youtube page directly from link then I found it wouldn't play the video. If I then navigated to Youtube main screen I had the loading icon appear and then video would work. Maybe you'd need to get to Youtube first and then navigate to Megavideo.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

I guess it depends on how Megavideo works and if it's compatible with the Wii.

The best way to watch movies, i think, would be to have MPlayer CE play them from a HDD or SDHC.
