Not only will the software backup your DVD movies, but it will also convert them so you can watch your backups on xbox360, ps3, psp, and nds. It will also convert one file type to another file type, so surely you can find a format that works with MPlayer CE. I have been using this software for years, ever since DVD XCOPY was put out of business and think it is the best on the market. This is just a trial copy, but I'm sure you can find a full version on torrents somewhere.
