Hey guys, I just joined this site, and have no prior knowledge or experience on the subject of wii hacking. I'm expecting that you guys are going to yell at me for being such a nub, and not using the search function on this site, but I've used it and i'm just way too overwhelmed with what is relevent and current, what is outdated, and what works. So I'd really appreciate it if someone could just point me in the right direction. Here's my dilemma, please keep in mind this would be the first time modifying a wii from about 2 years ago: All I want to do is Install the Homebrew channel without the use of the "Twilight Hack" (I've read that this is possible by way of something called the bannerbomb exploit?), and from there play backups (which seem self-explanatory, i'll figure out how to dump them myself) without having to burn them onto DVD-R's (I saw this youtube video on using a USB drive instead : [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] but I don't know if the links it supplies are up to date, and my wii wouldn't be connected to the internet either) Sorry for this wall of text, any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just some links to get me started. Thanks in advance.
Hey, I just hacked my wii for the exact same reason as you did after i found a great tutorial on how to do so. Here's the link, it's easy to follow and well put together.

when will people learn to actually read the guides on this forum, rather than some nonsense youtube video "how to hack your wii in 3 seconds using nothing but cookies" or written by someone who knows nothing (omg, i tried to hack my wii but my axe broke).
take a look at the guides and tutorials section of the forum, all the guides you could ever want are there.

Because you stated you tried to search and were overwhelmed with the search results, stick with the recommended Guides and Tutorial area. Here is one step-by-step tutorial for your softmodding needs and a backgrounder reader (both are current, well-maintained, well-supported, and are updated as needed: ·[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Dave, thank you for your advice (although it was somewhat harsh) but the problem i'm having in respect to navigating the tutorials on this website (which I didn't state clearly enough in my original post) is that it is hard to find beginner oriented tutorials that have a recent date on them, that is why I did not follow that youtube tutorial, or the second poster's link. All I need is the most up to date way to install the homebrew channel (preferably with nothing more than an SD card) and a way to play backed up games from a usb drive ( also preferably most up to date as well)
