I didn't realize modding systems was illegal. I always used the analogy, that its the same as modifying your car...you may kiss your warranty goodbye but you bought it so you can do whatever you want to it.
Maybe he was including "free" backups in the price of the mod. I saw people doing that on craigs list.
Yea I honestly dont agree with that. Actually I agree with you stomp 442. You can do whatever you want to your console. That includes sticking skins on the shell, changing the light on the wii drive, modding to allow homebrew. This though doesnt include emulators with roms, burned games, and stuff like that. But unless your dumb and walk down to your local police station and show them that you can play an illegal copy of SSBB to play on your wii, nothing is going to happen. Look at all the people that download music off the internet only to burn it onto a disc. The fact is that if this stuff is so illegal, then maybe they should ban blank media, usb and sd cards, and cd/dvd burners. The point is that these companies sell their products way too expensive and with the economy being so bad right now, can you really blame people for doing this stuff?
If any one saw the episode of Attack of the show last week on G4 I think it was thursday or fridays show their in the loop segment was about Jail breaking your Iphone. KP was interviewing the lawyer who is for legalizing the "jail breaking" mod and all of the apps you can use for it once its hacked. Arguing that you bought and paid for it so legally you should be able to do what you want with it. Apple's BS defense is that "terrorist hackers" will be able to shut down cell phone towers and it will make the phone "unsafe" , but they have no proof of any of this going on. What it all boils down to is...you guest it $$$ dolla dolla bills ya'll! Either they dont like the apps or they or wont be able to make a killing off them so its "illegal" lol. What I'm getting at here is if you modify your own bought and paid for Item, legally you should be able to do with it as you please. If someone has the technical know how to beef up or modify an Iphone, WII, or any gadget for that matter, and they want to make a few bucks for their time doing it, WHO CARES! These big corporate giants rape people all the time for their money when they have their cheap ass gadget being made by some one out side the usa not even making a decent wage most likely. Technical modifications should all be legal as long as there not being used to kill,torture, or activate terrorist attacks against anyone. :cool:
I wonder if this guy could've been a member of this or one of the other boards?? I read on the Wii News Channel that Immigration and Customs enforcement got a tip from the Entertainment software Association and searched the guys home. That's messed up.
Maybe it's legal to do what ever you want to your own stuff, but when you charge people money to mod their stuff, that might not be legal. I read an article about 4 months ago where someone got popped for soldering a mod chip in somebody's wii.
I bought a DVD player and it plays my backup movies, no mods needed. It even plays XVID movies right off a USB stick. Does that make my DVD player illegal?

Your Wii or whatever hardware is yours however software on the other hand it copyrighted.And if this guy was adverting mods in order to play backup games them that could be viewed as intent to pirate or as aiding software piracy.The guys are getting pretty strict nowadays.
I started looking at other articles after I found that one and there was one talking about the FBI raiding mod chip resellers in several states. The interesting part was that several of these people that were raiding and arrested were 'clean' meaning that didn't sell or deal with ANY backups or copied games.
The are now going after people that make it possible to circumvent copyright protection even though they aren't actually providing any copyrighted material.

If certain cars like trucks have to be limited to a certain speed by law and you go around taking off those limits and a truck driver then speeds has an accident and kills someone are you in part responsible?
