Ratio whore...
In a closed, perfect society everybody gives what he takes. If you take a lot you give a lot and still everybody likes you. If you take little you give little and still don't get in trouble.
But our society is not perfect and we especially hate those people who just take things for their own good and don't give anything back to the community. So we set up rules, for example: You have to give as much as you take or we kick you out of our community...
Well, imho, as we do so, we create a new threat. I am really pissed off by those noble whore. They give more than they take and think they are special and god's gift to the society. But as mentioned before we live in a closed society. As a result because they give more than they have too, others can only give less and get kicked out of the community.
It’s mathematically impossible that the average ratio of a closed community differs from 1. Forcing people to have a ratio greater than 1 leads to people with a ratio less than 1. By kicking this people out of the community you raise the average ratio of the community but just theoretically, practically you prove that you have no idea about maths and show that you are a eltish, snobish, whore ...
Just my 2 cent's about a maybe unkown site ran by 12 years old and think they are l33t.

Okey, i try to explain what I mean.
You download 5GB (about one game) and upload 5 GB, then your ratio is 1 and you are good.
Okeay, so there is another guy, he downloads the game too, but his upload is faster and he thinks he is a even better guy, so he shares 10 GB. Now his ratio is 2 and everybody loves him. But in the worst case there is now somebody who downloaded the game but cant share it, because this guy shared it 2 times.
As a result the unlucky guy gets banned. The ratio was: 1,2,0. After the Ban the ratios are 1,2 which means the average ratio of the community is 1.5 and everybody thinks this site is l33t.
So we banned this unlucky guy, who wanted to share, but could not because somebody else shared "faster" ... we ban him, which means, we kick somebody out who leeched 5gb but did not give anything back.
Now we invite new people and repeat the game.
As you can see this community looks good on the paper, because it has a high averae ratio. But IMHO a community suffers from kicking people with low ratio ...

yeah, i see what you're getting at. some sites give like a 2 week notice thing, where if they fall below some ration they get some time to try and upload to a certain ratio before they can download more

Actually I think the only way to make sharing "fair" is to throttle people with low ratio ... but not by default, but by demand. So
Guy with ratio 2 wants to download something and guy with ratio 0.5 watns to download something. So guy with ratio 2 gets full speed and the other one only hald speed or less. If there are only people with ratio 0.5, they all get full speed, because it dows not matter anway.
That would be fair and things would work for themself .... but as always the (maybe) best solution will be the most difficult one to assembly ...

its all a matter of preference, I prefer sites I dont have to pay for, hence why I'm here to not pay for the games

Wow, wait ... I am talking about p2p and not about stealing someones intelectual proberty here.
If you offer (upload) intelectual property without perission it's not right! If you or a third person earns money due to that it's even more wrong.
I am not sure about "just" downloading, cause Jennifer from Sony BMG already thinks syncing your iPOD is a crime (what happend to every copy is an original, from the mini-disc ads?) ...
