Star Trek Into Darkness --- Who's Gonna Go See It?

I'm gonna put the pedal to the metal tomorrow. Matinee is @ 12:40pm. Movie is listed as 132 minutes. Gotta be at work by 3:00p (work is literally about two traffic lights and 1/2mi away). Wondering if I'll make it?

Don't get me wrong, as I will go see anything Star Trek till the day I die. You and I both know it and a small amount of others were all we had to enter into the imagination of the sci fi realm as kids. Basically Star Trek flushes a toilet is still better to me than a lot of what ppl come up with in this day and age, which solely rely on special effects, and no real story. Star Trek is like Christianity, never gonna go away.

The thing that bothered me with the first one was the whole time travel business. You know terminator keeps going back in time and killing so and so, so and so keeps going either back or forth and trying to either stop the terminators from existing or foiling their plans in the future. They can make hundreds of sequels, but the shit just gets old. The old box office paradox nightmare.

Ok, I saw the first one, with it's phenomenal cast, and accepted the whole time travel and altering events and two spocks coexisting. Everything worked out just fine and okey dokey to all that. A couple of years ago I was reading articles online, which basically said that because there was a divergence of the timeline, they were not going to make the second one about Kahn. Instead they were going to use a different nemesis from the original story ( I can think of many that would be awesome for this prospect). A couple of days ago I decided to check out the IMD of the movie and guess who I saw was going to be a main character, c'mon you all know and love him, he's fracking Kahn lol.

So all I can say is yeah I will go and see it, just not sure why we need an altered timeline just to redo the whole Kahn thing. Not saying the wrath of Kahn wasn't pretty damn cool, but do we really need to see that guy in this sequel? Hey, maybe they will surprise me and make everything work out, who knows. Just saying there were a lot of other nemesis, that I could imagine that would be even better at this stage of the game, with that altered timeline and all.

TWOK was the best Trek action flick. TVH was the best Trek humored one, thematically-speaking. And you're off base. When sequel news started coming out two or three years ago, they said they were gonna redo TWOK. I groaned. Then a long period of nothing. Then we hear of this character's name (Harris) and I'm like "well, maybe not (thank God)." Yeah, right... choose either "originality is dead," "we're gonna milk her dry," or "tried and true." The reviews I'm told has this as a fascinating tweak on the concept, we'll see (damn tinkering rather than original storytelling).

Yeah, I don't have the original articles I can site for you. I was just basically reading online as a distraction from something else, so I don't know when and where, or even who they came from. Never thought of them in terms of being reliable sources, especially at that stage of the game in terms of how little could have possibly been done in terms of writing and production.

Anyway they were talking about using the story about the guy who thought he was a God. I remember vaguely what the episode was as it wasn't rerun as often as the others, and I hardly cared since I just wanted to see some cool aliens lol.

Ah, Gary Mitchell and Dr Elizabeth Dehner... yeah that was the re-shoot/sold as pilot for series after the network took an initial "pass" on the first (incorporated into the two parter, "The Menagerie" later in the series). Action Trek at its best along with the personal quagmire of killing your BFF, lol
