Soft Mod and USB port

I know this question has been asked a thousand times and I have tried to resolve this myself, but no luck. I have a 4.2u wii that I've downgraded to a 4.1. I've done everything in the guides and tried multiple loaders and they will not recognize the usb port. Any suggestions?
