Question How to get my music from ipod onto new computer

So my iPod has been synced to our desktop, and I have bought some music from my ipod that is not on the desktop. But now i have a new computer and i want my music from my ipod, not the desktop, on the itunes on the new computer, but transfer purchases isn't working. So.. is there a way to transfer from the ipod on to the new itunes Or can someone at the genius bar do that for me
    -Thanks

Depends. Nano or Touch, or another?

If you've genuinely bought the songs from iTunes Store to your iPod, you should be able to transfer purchases without any problems, as long as you authorize your new computer with the same iTunes account that you bought your songs with.
Know more about How to transfer or sync iPod music to Mac, which included the detailed tutorials of how to transfer your music from iPod to Mac.
Hope it can do you a favor.

He claims transfer purchases isn't working.

If you have an iPod Nano (1st through 5th generation) You can access the files of it. Authorize your computer to view hidden files, and search through the hidden files for a folder called Music. This contains all music on your iPod. Just copy that folder to iTunes, and it will properly rename your songs and albums automatically. You can sync from there.

(Your iPod will claim it's being synced while being viewed. This is a normal action, as it assumes it has changes being made to it.)

    Smile iPod music to iTunes/Mac

You need to sign in to itunes, click the Store tab at the top and click "authorize this computer". now try transfering purchases.

1.The first thing you want to do is connect your ipod to your computer via the white USB cable.
2.After your ipod is connected, open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the ipod drive. It should be in the (F:drive. You will see the ipod logo in the listing of disk drives.
3.If you are using Windows 7: Open the ipod drive and click on ORGANIZE. Then folder and search options tab. Then View and Show hidden files and folders.
If you are using Windows XP, open the ipod drive and click tools then Folder options then View tab then click show hidden files and folder. Finally click Apply.
4.Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
5.Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer. You can do this by creating a new folder on your desktop and dragging the files into the folder.
6.Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music

You can now sync your ipod to this new computer with out losing all of your music.

    Hope it can help you.
