iPod touch jailbreak problems
So I have a 2g mc model iPod touch. It was ios 4.0, but then I downgraded to 3.1.2 and jailbroke it using spirit. Everything is fine until I try and download an app from the app store. It says "application requires iPhone 3.1.3 update" or something like that. Is there any way to update to 3.1.3 and keep all my jailbroken apps and stuff like that.thanks in advance.
iPod, iPhone, iPad Jailbreak and Downgrade from IOS 4 to 3.1.3
no you cant update and keep what you have.......... what you need to do is first open itunes do a restore like its back to its origonal if it goes back to 4.0 thats fine then
This is a tutorial on how to downgrade your iPhone, or iPod Touch to 3.1.3.
Step 1: Connect to Computer, and turn iPhone/iTouch power off.
Step 2: Hold both Home+Power buttons for about 10 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Home button until your computer recognizes it.
Step 3: (MAC users) Hold the Option button and click Restore. Then locate the 3.1.3 firmware you downloaded. (WIN users) Hold Shift and click Restore. Then locate the 3.1.3 firmware you downloaded. Let it restore your iPhone or iTouch to 3.1.3 or lower, which may take up to 10-15 minutes. When completed you should get an error message.
Step 4: Use the program you can download below, and click Exit Recovery Mode.
Step 5: Let your iPhone or iTouch activate in iTunes, then if needed, Restore from old backups.

Once you do this and you have 3.1.3 on your ipod, iphone, ipad Open spirit and let it do its thing after it gets done you then should have Cydia on there there will be 2 things you need to get after all that is done 1, hackulo.us 2,Installous
If you want to get free apps for the iPhone or iPod Touch, you must first have your iPhone or iPod Touch jailbroken. After that, simply get on Cydia and add the Hackulous repository;
Cydia -> Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add
Enter the link “http://cydia.hackulo.us” like the picture below.
After adding the source for the Hackulous repository to cydia, the next step is to download the Installous app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The Installous app will be your source for apps.
Cydia -> manage -> Packages
From there whether you want to perform a search function or just scroll down and find it, you will have to install the Installous app. The Installous app will be like an alternative to the iPhone app store.
Once the Installous app is on your springboard, you can use it to find the many apps that are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The app will often redirect you to hosting sites via the browser but from there just simply select a mirror and you should be able to enjoy the apps free.

Thanks, I'm going to do that when I get a chance, but I heard about this thing called apt backup. Also will the jailbreak be tethered or untethered. I have a 2g mc model. ThanX
if it is jailbroken it would be tethered right now when you restore it back to factory it will be untethered if you need anther copy of Spirit you can download it by my signature.
My iPod is untethered
Actually my iPod is untethered right now. If untethered means you do not have to connect it to a computer to turn it on.Anyway how does aptbackup work if you know what it is.
never ran it always backed all my apps up with itunes and then i jailbreak it and then i send all my stuff back onto my ipod after its done.
Backup cydia apps
Yeah I know, but I meant cydia apps.
LMAO no clue i would have to look into that becouse i have a crap load of themes and keyboards and apps i downloaded let me look into that and ill let you know....
To backup everything do one of these:
SFTP into your iPhone and backup all apps you've installed via Cydia that are in the directory above.
Also backup the folder called "apt" in /private/etc/
Restore Pwned firmware or new firmware them QuickPwn it, and SFTP in and copy back your apps and the "apt" folder to their correct directories and let Cydia update everything.
You can install "AptBackup" (use Cydia and search for it) and it will backup a list of al the apps you've installed via Cydia. That list then gets backed up when you do a normal backup to iTunes. Then after you have to restore your iPhone, use AptBackup to restore the list and Cydia will install them all back at the same time.
Keep in mind that AptBackup only makes a list of your 3rd party apps. And does NOT back up the actual app. So in other words, you will lose any settings to those apps. It's better than nothing.
There is no way to backup unofficial applications. You can place o your computer via SSH and replace them after a restore, but they will have the wrong permissions and will not launch. AptBackup only makes a list of your apps, and AppBackup only backs app data, not the app itself.
I use a combination of itunes restore and Rock restore.
Once you install Rock and set up a user account, Rock will automatically create backups of your non-apple apps. When I restore, I run the itunes backup then the Rock backup. Just about everything comes back except custom themes.
