I've read some talk about the beta ios5 having this problem, but I got hit with it and I could use some tech support on possibly retrieving them... Contacts obliterated. In the neighborhood of 150 contacts... Bummed.

What did you use as a contact source..... Mobile me or google.... I'm setting my wifes 4gs tmorow morn and am gonna go a google sync option because she is going from an android to the iPhoneQuote:

Re: why this is in this section - if it's bugging you, I apologize, but I thought it is relevant if others have this issue, which is likely the case based on what I've read about beta users' experiences. No? Ok, well I said sorry.
I'm pretty sure I set contacts to backup to the cloud. I ran the restore, which did not resolve my lack of contacts list... Also went to settings on the iPhone and turned off contacts for cloud, which gave a prompt that contacts would be stored on the phone instead; still no resolution. Apart from suggesting I posted in an inappropriate forum, anyone have any tips I could try? Anyone else have this problem?
It's not a big deal, it can be moved. I just asked for your reason. Also, better watch your attitude... might end up in the RR. All I asked is for a simple reason, no need for that end sentence...Quote:

Checked out contacts icloud.com, no dice. Either I messed up and couldn't tell I told Apple to delete all my contacts when I upgraded, or Denmark has that "fish" smell...
Hmm, well, I doubt it was you that deleted them. Probably some sort of bug (a bug that should be sorted before going live). Kinda dumb to launch a big update of their iOS and have that big of a bug. Looks like you're not the only one with it, from googling, others too. I find it weird that a Restore from Backup doesn't work either. Maybe instead of trying your latest backup, try an earlier backup?Quote:

Solution #3 – The Import from SIM Fix
This fix relies on you storing contacts in your SIM card most likely:
I wouldn’t rely on this as it may vary based on carrier.
- Go to “Settings”
- Click on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
- Click “Import SIM Contacts”
Solution #4 – Reset Your iPhone (Thanks Josh — see comments)
This fix was submitted by a commenter, and it worked for him (basically the same as everything … reset and force a sync):
Hope it works!
- Make sure you are connected to iTunes and online
- Turn off your iPhone
- Turn it on again
- iPhone should sync automatically (this could take time, don’t interrupt it!)
Solution #5 – Restore Your iPhone
This fix submitted by Chris (thanks!) in the comments, and seems to work for a few people:
- Plug iPhone into Computer
- Launch iTunes
- After it’s done syncing, right click on iPhone (under devices in the left) and click on “Restore from Backup”
- Choose one (it may not be the most recent, some folks have bad backups just before the upgrade)
- Let the iPhone restore completely
- DO NOT CONNECT TO iCLOUD
