And I decided to hang on to my old iPhone 4 for a while too, so I have something to tinker with jailbreaking and all that. But here is a question, I've been keeping it airplane mode (no sense in letting it drain the battery looking for signal when it's deactivated) but I still would like the option of iMessage and FaceTime, which I know are useable even after deactivation, but to use them I have to turn off airplane mode (tried turning on APM and switching wifi back on and it still didn't work). Is there some way I can take it out of airplane mode but not having it constantly looking, in vein, for cell signal as the iPhone does?

Sum it up; No cell searching, but yes to wifi to enable iMessages and FaceTime?

Edit: Also if anyone knows of a app (preferably a free one) that would let me make voice calls that would be pretty awesome

Only for a few days while I wait for my Otterbox Defender to come in (got one on amazon for around $20)

I don't really know what to say, but I'm able to turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi with no problems. I tried it just now on mine and it worked fine. (Iphone 4 with the newest update). It also worked with previous updates because I remember going out of the country and using the phone at wifi hotspots with airplane mode turned on so the phone doesn't pick up the countries cell phone providers...

As for other apps that I've heard you can make voice calls from are Tango and Skype. Honestly I never used them myself so I don't really know if it is free or if there are some charges.

Well what do you know, you're right. When I turned airplane mode on, then wifi and then tried to activate iMessage and FaceTime it gets stuck on "waiting for activation..." But it's just for my number (the phone is deactivated), I can actually send iMessages with airplane mode over wifi using my email

    Thanks
