Hi. What will happen if i update from disc...

    Hi,
back in summer 2009 i tried hacking my wii following instructions from a video from youtube. After I heard a lot about how you can brick your wii just by buying new games and updating the system from the disc, i wanted to re-virginise my wii. so i googled instructions on how to do that and read that if i just deleted all the unofficial channels and then update my wii online it should get rid of all the softmods. However, i keep receiving and error 32017 (i believe) everytime i tried to update. Even though the update was not completed due to the error, it still said my system is now on 4.3E.

All my games are working fine. I havent bought any new games after summer 2009 for the wii, believing that a new game would ask for a system update and might brick my wii. Just recently i heard about xenoblade and absolutely cannot wait to play it. I immediately bought the game but when i inserted it into my wii, it asked for a system update. So right now i am very scared to update it incase i brick my wii but at the same time i cannot wait to play it.

i have been reading the forums on this site and thought of rehacking my wii just to get the IOS or cIOS or whatever it is that is needed to run the game. i used the SSBB hack to reinstall HBC, however, when i try to use bootmii, i get a black screen.

i dont really care about hacking my wii. all i want to do is be able to play this game. what can i do? would updating from the disc brick my wii?

    thanks in advance.

Never update from Nintendo, disc or online. You are getting that error because priiloader is blocking the update, which is good because that is not how you want to do it. If you follow the softmod any wii guide it will update your softmod and you will be able to play new games. It will update IOS and cIOS, which is what is needed to play games, system menu does not matter.

    Hello and welcome to

Thank you for joining the best Nintendo Wii modding community there is. Please take time to read the Forum Rules and follow them, this will make your experience here a lot more enjoyable.

We are here to help you with any problems you might have with your modding experience. But please remember to search and research for your problem before posting. Most of the time someone will have the same problem and a solution has been posted already. For help with searching tips you can look at the [GUIDE] Ultimate Searching Tool [Guide]

Now if you want the best guide, in my opinion, to softmod your Wii. Follow the Softmod any Wii Guide, you can also use this guide to update your old softmod.

But before you do have a look at Thinking about hacking a wii? Start here! [A basic introduction to Wii hacking]. This will give you a better understanding of how things work in your Wii.

After you get your console sorted, you will need to find a way to backup your games. The best way is to copy them to an external hard drive or usb flash drive. You can copy them to DVD -r's, but only if your Wii's disc drive is old enough to be capable of reading them. Wii's made after Sept. of 2009 are not able to play backups from disc. You can check the Wii Drive Chip Database to see if yours will play DVD -r's.

BEFORE GETTING A USB DRIVE CHECK THE USB COMPATIBILITY LIST.

The recommended usb drive setup is fat32. Although, you can still use NTFS or WBFS loading.

IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH A PARTICULAR GAME, CHECK THE ULTIMATE LIST OF TROUBLESOME GAMES, TO FIND A FIX FOR IT.

IF YOU HAVE AN ERROR, CHECK THE ERROR INDEX

There are many more guides for homebrew and Wii related fun. Also we have sections for other game systems for those of us that just can't get enough of any one console. I personally have multiple console and handheld game systems. So have fun browsing the site.
