    Cool Greetings Programs!

Softmodded my the Black Wii I got for Christmas thanks to the wonderful reading material on this site. Unfortunately I had already updated the Wii prior to modding so it had 4.3u on it, but with many thanks to Mauifrog and his guide I got it up and running with HBC and USB CFG channels. The install of the mods went without a hitch, and I now have a Hitachi XL1000 1TB drive hooked up and playing backups. Another big thanks to Kranks for the Black Ops guide. There is still a lot to learn and some of it seems arcane and confusing, but thanks to everyone here I can partake of the cure to ignorance at my leisure.

    Cheers

    Greetings mooman_fl

I am Bliepo and I am here to welcome you to WiiHacks! It is always nice to see a new member such as yourself.

First of all, please read the Forum Rules and Brick Prevention- Things you should never do.Please do your best to follow them, or you might be corrupted by the dark side

To help new members find their way, we have a very nice index, the Ultimate Wiihacks Index. You can also take a look at our Hot Topics !!!! forum, which has links to the latest top guides on the forum! If you still can't find what you are looking for, you can always use the search function. Or try using Google. Just add "site: wiihacks.com" to the end, and Google will help you find it on wiihacks.

If you want to start softmodding your wii, I recommend Guide: Softmod ANY wii. After that, you can use USB HDD back-up loading. We have a FAT 32 guide, a NTFS guide and a WBFS guide.

You can also join IRC and chat live with members and staff (IRC Welcome & Rules).

If you like wiihacks, it would be very nice if you made a donation.

Thanks, Bliepo! I have already read most of what you posted using my normal rules of repetition (ie. always read the number of times suggested by the author x3 at a minimum). Since I am paranoid about bricking this serves me well. I am new to modding the Wii, but not a newbie to modding in general since I softmodded several PS2 systems over the years and hard modded one of them. I also always read forum rules before even signing up and will ALWAYS search thoroughly before asking a question.

The thing that you posted that most interests me is the HDD guides. I tried initially with a quad-partitioned drive (250GB WBFS, 100GB Fat32 for Homebrew, 150GB Fat32 for media files, and 500GB NTFS for PC files). Couldn't get the Wii to read the WBFS and I am 90% sure it was user error. Currently I have a tri-partitioned drive with Homebrew and Games residing under a Fat32 partition using Wii Backup Manager v0.3.8 build 61 and the latest USB CFG. May take another crack at a WBFS setup later after really going over those guides in more detail.

All in all, great site here. Glad I can be a part of it.

    Cheers

    Hello mooman_fl,

It is good to know that you will read the instructions carefully Although modding a wii and modding a PS2 is very different, it is always good to have some modding experience.

About the HDD loading, I personally prefer FAT32 over WBFS. FAT32 gives better recovery options if things go wrong, it is compatible between multiple systems and there is no need of multiple partitions. I used to use WBFS loading in the past, but it suddenly crashed and I lost all of my games on the disc. Since then, I have been using FAT32.
Off course, you are free to decide which you want to use. If you want to use WBFS, then you should certainly do so.
