    Hello

New to game consoles since the Atari 2600, so it's been a while to say the least. After 3 days of reading my head buzzes with new concepts but like it so far. Always nice to learn how to hack new things, and maybe make my own hacks. Who knows...

Got myself a new Wii (well, new... it was a brand new one in a box, box came with 3.1u, so I guess it's not that new) and looking where to start. I'm resisting temptation to update anything on it, but find it difficult, every disk I insert says updating the damn thing. Will have to get my head wrapped around that first concept I guess.

So cheers everyone, any tips always welcome obviously.

    thanks vinatec, much appreciated.
I already started yesterday already ran into a snafu. Was a bit surprised.. Followed one of the guide, the one applying for softmodding 3.1-4.1, and the BootMii menu can't be driven using the console buttons. Looks like I need to buy another remote. That discouraged me a bit. Guess will have to look at this later.

I was also looking for a poll and couldn't find one, how many people chose the hard mod version vs the soft mod. I saw WODE and was impressed, would be a great solution for the car in my opinion. The console will be hidden away, a small portable HDD would make the whole disk swapping issue go away. Don't want kids mess with it, just play. :-)

    Cheers!

p.s: any good source for homebrew source code? I'l like to learn how to exploit hacks once I learned how to work with the damn thing.

Hi, as this section is for introductory purpose only i will answer only short.
the guide you choose is good.
bootmii is controlled with the buttons on the console, make sure any periphery is plugged out, gc controllers etc.
wode is nice but quite expensive, can't get the part "console will be hidden". many members already switched to usb loading as it is much more fun than disc loading and it is for free. so, softmod, get a usb loader and a nice harddrive and be set to run your games off your hdd. check out wiiflow or cfg usbloader on youtube for example.
homebrew: go to wiibrew.org for example, they include the source code on some apps.
further questions would go in the newbie area or just join the chat to get some hints.
    good luck again
