Post My reason to be here

My name is Brainson, I'm trying to write my reason to be here in English as good as I can, so everybody can understand but please understand if there some mistakes.
I tried to play again my WII a few days ago after didn't play it about an year but none of my old CD games could play. Then I bought it to the store where I bought it. After checking my console, a guy there told me that the firmware must be upgraded to a newer version. When I agreed, he did it all in front of me but I didn't know what he did. He had 4 SD cards and put it one-by-one to the console after everything is done. Then he opened the console and un-soldering a chip and gave it to me. He said, that I don't need it anymore. I knew that he had taken out the modchip and did softmod after join this forum and read some threads (thank you wiihacks.com). He told me that my wii is ready to play both old and new games but I have to play the games through BACKUP LAUNCHER (BL). In fact, most of the games I play so far, can be played trough BL but there are some games that must be played trough a normal one such as JUST DANCE, CoD Modern Warfare, etc. It left a question in my mind, why it happen and what is BL then I tried to googling it and I found this forum.

What do I know after reading some thread in this forum? Now, I know...
    1. My firmware version is 3.2U
    2. My BL is Neogamma R6, IOS 249 (Rev 10)
    3. My HBC is IOS 36 v. 4.18
    4. I can play games through USB HDD. I can play barnyard but cannot play Glacier 2
That's all that I know, so far and still reading the threads one-by-one.

What kind of questions that comes into my mind?
    1. It's explained that 3.2U is the most stable firmware. Should I have to upgrade my firmware and for what reasons?
    2. The latest version on Neogamma is R8 beta 15. Should I have to upgrade it?
    3. What is the latest version of HBC and should I have to upgrade it?
    4. Why I cannot play Glacier 2 from USB HDD?
    5. I found a tutorial to install BOOTMII and I think I do need it but does the guy in the store had installed it? How can I find out? the tutorial also said that the installation could be fail if the BOOTMII already installed.
    6. After I find the answer of number 5, I would like install WAD Manager. What is the recommended WAD Manager 1.4, 1.5 or 1.6?
    7. I read about IOS and cIOS but still don't understand which one is the most important?

Thank you for reading, I hope I can find the answer to my questions in this forum. If anyone can help, you are always welcome.

THANK YOU WIIHACKS.COM, YOU ARE AWESOME

Hello Brainson and welcome to the WiiHacks community. This is the Introductions Forum to allow our new members to introduce themselves to the community. Thank you for taking the time to create a post with the important details. The Introductions Forum is not normally where problem posts or question should be posted. However, I will answer a few of your questions and ask that you re-post in a more suitable Forum elsewhere, please.

You do not have to update your system menu. Games load and play using IOSes, not the system menu. NeoGamma R8 is out of beta phase development and so NeoGamma R8 is available in final version release. Current HBC is 1.0.6. If the store installed Bootmii, you will see the DVD slot blink twice when you powerup the Wii.

Your Wii could use some updating; I suggest you read the 3.1-4.1 softmod tutorial linked below in my welcome post. There is also a new guide available on updating the softmodded Wii; go HERE. Keep reading, best wishes.

You have joined the world’s largest Wii modding and forum community. To help you access the useful and relevant information available on this site, it is strongly recommended that you first look at this special site index: Wiihacks Ultimate Index. Another guide to the site, that is intended for new members, is HERE.

Make sure you read the rules of this site. There are a number of tutorials and guides available to assist you. Many of our new members find the tutorials for softmodding any 3.1-4.1 Wii and any 4.2 Wii or the full hacking guide for 4.2Wiis particularly useful. If you will be using an external USB hard disk drive to load and play backups of your Wii games, go HERE.

Make sure to either look through the site tutorials and guides or use the search function before asking questions. While the moderators, staff, and members of this community are willing to help you, some effort on your part to read, research, and follow the rules is expected. To get the best response to your question(s), post in the associated forum areas. This is very important as inappropriate posting could get you restricted to the reading room or even banned. If, after looking at the tutorials and trying to search, you still need help or just want to post a very basic type of question, go to the http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-newbie-discussions-forum/.

Wiihacks also has a chat room on irc://irc.uicn.net/wiihacks . Please read the welcome and rules and then feel free to join in the light-hearted chats and activities. While any IRC client can connect to #wiihacks on the UICN , there are tutorials to help you connect using either ChatZilla or mIRC.

If this site and our members have provided substantive help, you can Donate to the forum and get a nice banner under your name and gain access to the donator forums.

    Enjoy your stay with us.
